If I couldn't have my kifaru I would go with the REI XT85 first choice, 2nd would be hornhunter full curl. I have used eberlestock, badlands and sitka and would not look at any of these for packing meat or extended hunts.
It all depends on how you hunt. when we back pack in and hunt elk, we set up camp. From there we could be a couples miles from camp in steep country when we kill an elk. There is no way I would want to have to go back to camp, get my weight packing pack and go back after the animal. Way to many...
I have used both pumps and sawyer. For me the sawyer squeeze is the way to go. Yes I have it set up with the quick attach so no pulling my water bladder out of my bag.
We got dumped on with 14" of snow overnight after 14 hours of rain this year. The forecast before we packed in. Light rain, possibly a dusting of snow. I would not have wanted to try and find wood to burn to cook my meals. Last year it rained atleast 6 hours a day for 5 of the 6 days we hunted...
I have had both and I prefer the bikini. At 100lbs of pack weight I actually prefer it to the duplex. The bikini is much more comfortable and cool when hunting. I had the 24" stays on the duplex and 26" on the bikini. I like the 26"
You need to be realistic about how much weight you will be...
If my brother ever gets his pics sent to me from his camera I will post some pics of it on and loaded. It fits the frame amazingly well. When packing meat(no I didn't get to try that part out ) you could either pack it in the bag or use the straps and compress the meat load between the bag...
Sorry guys been real busy. Here are some pics. There are actually 2 straps on each side like the one in the second pic. The top one angles upwards from the pack to the frame. Pics are hard to tell, no mods to pack or frame. Just used existing tabs. The bottom 2 pics are the same strap I...
Not a SG frame but I put the kuiu ultra 6000 on my kifaru bikini frame. No mods needed. Used the straps and clips that came with the bag and some slick clips. Used it on a 7 day elk hunt and loved it.
I just bought an ulta 6000 and mounted it to my Kifaru BIkini frame. works very good and my total pack weight, ultra 6000, bikini frame and all straps I used to mount comes in at 63oz. That is 20oz lighter than with the T2 and 800ci more. I will try to post up some pics of how I mounted it. I...
Mine worked great around home and in the open country. Up elk hunting most of the time it was pretty good. But there were a few times that it was over a quarter mile off and wouldn't get any closer.
For those of you using the sawyer mini filter. How easy/hard is it so suck water through? I have had water bottles in the past that had built in filters and they were horrible to try and get water through.
