Work the QAD and listen. I had one go south on me and it made a click when I pulled it back. Just broke. The Hamskea Epsilon and Hybrid Hunter have been bulletproof for me, other than when a bow tech adjusted the Hybrid Hunter incorrectly.
Pronghorn are a lot smarter than people think. I hunted an area near Craig for many years. We would ride around, find a herd we could stalk, and then, drive over a hill, get out and do the stalk. After a couple of successful years, when the truck went out of sight, the bucks would move the...
I had two ELDX bullets in 6mm, shot from a 6mm Creedmor, expand way too quickly. One was a witnessed shot at 100 yards, lung hit a little high, fall, get up and run away, never to be found again. The 2nd shot, at 275 yards measured, didn't penetrate 4 inches, which was easy to tell when I...
400 or so measured, with a 243 and 100 grain bullets. 350 with a 6mm Creedmoor and Hornady ELDX bullets,. I've killed antelope with 22-250 as well, two of them, one at 350. Your 243 is more than enough.
I've killed a lot of elk with the 270/130/partition out to 519 measured yards. Always worked without flaw.
4 elk in the past several years have been with the 130 Hdy GMX and the last two, the GX. They also work very well. I can't comment on anything else besides the 140 AB, which would also...
You carry a rifle a lot more than you shoot it. Elk are big, 8-9x is plenty at 500 or less. Leupold 2x.5x8 is the lightweight champion of scopes. My 270 with 4 rounds of ammo and a Slogan thermoplastic sling is a little over 7 lbs. And it's killed elk at 500 with the 3x9 Kahles on it. (A...
Magnificent table fare, as long as they are quickly skinned and well taken care of. Diet is important, too. The last one I shot lived off cholla flowers and it was fantastic. Hay fed is better than sage fed but they are all great eating, IMO. Only one of the several dozen I have killed was a...
Copied the narrative from my previous post. For some reasons, the pics would show up to me and then disappear after a while.
Here's the narrative:
Today's shot.
Mathews V3x, granite riser with black limbs. 60 lbs, 26.5" draw, It's taken me a while to get used to the short valley but I'm...
Today's shot.
Mathews V3x, granite riser with black limbs. 60 lbs, 26.5" draw, It's taken me a while to get used to the short valley but I'm over it finally.
Spot Hogg Fast Eddie XL 2 pin, 50 yards.
Black Eagle Rampage Arrows, 350 spine, 100 gr points. (No place for me to shoot broadheads...
So far, so good. Darn stiff, they're built. They spent an hour over two phone calls helping me out on getting them fitted and broken in, as a part of what they do. Not cheap, but at what my feet felt like in 2021, it's worth every penny.
I like them a lot. So far, so good. I haven't given them any serious 10-12 mile mtn hikes but that's coming up soon. They fit fine, and you learn to rock them when you walk. Everything fits, including the height of my arches as I've got both wide and high volume feet. And no matter what I...
The Lathrop and Sons 9.5 4E width boots are so far, excellent. I haven't put more than 20 miles on them, but they fit. Lock your feet right it. I will do some summer hiking but don't have any hunting related reasons to wear them until September, with the caveat that I'll know more if an...
Certainly. They sent me a tracing kit fwhich you send back, and then, they'll call and spend a half hour or more on the phone with you to determine your needs and discuss what they can do. Give them a credit card, and then, it took about a month. They don't just send the boot, they'll modify...
FWIW, I bought a V3X 29 last April. My only complaint is the valley is very short. If you don't hold your anchor back, it will quickly try to pull your arm off at the elbow. It's accurate, forgiving and quiet. But your form has to be right. I'm told the 90% letoff mods have a longer valley.
For light duty boots, New Balance has a $160 hiker than comes in 4E and 6E widths. I have a pair in 9.5 6E and love them. They would not be my first choice for packing out an elk, as they are more akin to a pair of tennis shoes for ankle support but they are my elk boots for this year by...
