Yup, I know the unit you’re speaking of and it was largely deer free until they put them there, the old guys I grew up hunting with talked about them doing the same thing in D16/19 back in the 40’s also.
This is your first bull elk hunt? Shoot the first one you see that is legal, they all taste the same. Don’t put pressure on yourself to shoot a certain size bull, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment, especially just starting out. Spikes taste delicious.
Not at all, one is native and one is not. That would be like dropping mule deer from Colorado into Southern California and saying “meh, they’re all mule deer who cares” but they’re not, they’re different subspecies designed to exist in different environments.
No arguing with that logic.
What...
Bingo what? You agree in the introduction of a non-native subspecies that is bigger and longer of leg than the original subspecies that existed in Colorado?
It's interesting that you say the subspecies is immaterial because the CPW/NPS is killing Cutthroat trout because it's the wrong sub-species for that drainage but when it comes to a canine it's ok to introduce a non-native subspecies.
Incorrect, the proper subspecies native to that part of Colorado is Youngi, long exterminated, they are introducing a subspecies that has never been present in this state.
You laughed at my comment above, I’m not sure why. The subspecies of wolf being introduced to that part of Colorado has...
There are 8 wilderness areas in Illinois, why not backcountry hunt one of them? You'll learn the basics of it and when you finally do make it out west you'll already have some experience under your belt?
If you just want dinner and not anything special then there is a Village Inn on the north side of Hwy 50 about half way through town, not bad but not great.
There a pretty good burger joint/bar downtown but I can not remember the name.
Have you been to the Sand Dunes Nat’l Monument? An hour or so from SF, you can rent sand boards (if the place is open) to use in the dunes. Pretty neat place.
I'm thankful to see this thread and know it's not only me that is feeling this way. I used to be obsessed with hunting but am not that way any longer, I had points in multiple states but quit applying. I'm content now with a couple tags in my pocket, deer and elk, maybe a late season whitetail...
Mine got delivered yesterday, only problem is the USPS delivered it somewhere else and I have no clue where so hopefully it turns up or USPS is helpful. They also delivered another package I was expecting yesterday somewhere else.
