Cow decoy worth it for a solo hunter?

In response to 5 miles back. Ocationaly still hunt, but mostly I sneak in to my spot with wind in my face. Usually arrive in dark. Brush myself in and wait the day. Sometimes go in for lunch & hike back in for evening sit. Much like a whitetail hunt. I have several of these spots. May hunt...

Euro mount issue, anything like this happen to anyone else???

I’ve done several, my reaction is same as everyone else. What state did this buck come from? When you over heat a skull the nasal canal is very delicate and 1st thing to self destruct! You can literally boil the nose off the skull. Could it possibly be related to the mineral or lack of...

Cow decoy worth it for a solo hunter?

I have wrestled with this question For 16 years consecutively. Take a decoy don’t take a decoy. Our first season out we had a decoy with us and Archery killed a bull without the decoy. We were moving, headed for the truck when opportunity arrived. Set up was fast no decoy was used. Success was...

    Elk broadheads

Whatever you choose just be sure they fly like you practice. We don’t want to switch up on the same quiver with something that doesn’t fly like your field point. Unless you can keep all that straight. In the moment of truth I want all my arrows to fly alike.

    Beginner saddle set up

Got into saddle last season. Went with tethrd phantom & preditor platform. I’ve spent my career for last 28 years running a tree service. Only regret is that I did not begin saddle hunt early on. I remember one of my 1st jobs was in a tree saddle every day for a week. This pecan tree was...

    Elk broadheads

I love a shared quiver. Seems I order my arrows 1st choice on down (OCD) then a judo for end. Mixing works!

    Question for elk hunters

Quite a privilege to have elk hunt so convenient. Old saying: bird in the hand is better than 2 in the bush. Elk either sex with a stick is such a trophy either way.

Intrusive Bears and Food Stored Under Truck Bed Covers

Deadfall, with his solar powers electric fence is so right on. Reminds me of an elk camp I drove through in south Colorado one year. Free ranging cattle had found this guys camp and had it strewn over a space of an acre. I never seen anything like it. I’d bet that guy has an electric fence today.

    Elk broadheads

Wind plane would be my thought on a couple of them. Accuracy & shot placement is the right answer though. I shoot a head called viper trick made by slick trick. Totally non traditional head but it is solengen steel razor shipped from germany. Still, doesn’t help if placement is off but they...

No Tag - Can I still be in the Colorado Elk woods?

I find this topic very interesting. This year one of the guys going with me to Colorado is bringing his dad to enjoy his archery experience. I never experienced this in past 15 years in the elk woods. Pretty cool!

Two Weeks in the Colorado Elk Woods

Every day spent with a bow in your hands is to be coveted no mater what day you are there. From my experience the more people the better if you know escape routes the elk are using.
