A fun question from the OP. I definitely think that trained wind musicians have a leg up on calling with most diaphragms and open reeds.
I was an all state French horn player and played seriously through college and a few years in amateur orchestras afterward. Gave it up to focus more on...
Lost an inReach and trekking pole on last day of a hunt in California last year. I think I know exactly where it is but haven't gone back to check. $350
Lost my quiver full of arrows during an elk hunt and a buddy went back with his truck (he had drive in access) to exactly where I remembered a...
Selling a weighted magazine end cap that fits a 12 gauge Browning Gold / Winchester SX3 or SX4.
Black oxide color. 6 oz. total and a great way to reduce recoil and smooth out your swing on a duck or clays gun. I've sold my SX3 so don't need this anymore.
Here is the item at $60 new.
$40...
Set of Trulock Precision Hunter choke tubes for a 12 gauge Invector + gun. All black oxide, in great condition, and in an MTN case. Would be a fantastic complete hunting choke upgrade for someone. I just sold my Brownings and got a Beretta A400 Xcel so want these to find a new home.
Chokes...
I'm looking forward to the day when smartphones include satellite messaging and emergency distress, but hope Garmin and Zoleo etc. stick around so market competition keeps subscription prices reasonable.
Scott Ascent, which is a dual moon hinge that allows me to set the travel distance on the click and fire. I like being able to "come to the click" and start a shot routine.
For that reason, I'm wanting to try the new Stan Onex click thumb release as well.
20 gauge can be made to work fine ballistically, but I don't understand the love for subgauges as primary duck guns now that the average 20 gauge is around 6#. That's a light gun.
Tungsten in shot sizes 9 and smaller is a terrible idea for waterfowl. I understand that it hammers birds, but I'm...
One more arrow that I've always wanted to try is the Victory RIP TKO 250 spine. It's listed as 8.9 GPI, just 0.1 GPI heavier than the 300 spine arrow in that line which is 8.8. What a bargain! You get just 0.1 GPI heavier in shaft weight and bump up to the 250 spine stiffness. Typically, the...
I'm also a long draw archer and have gone through this arrow weight pain (I like to shoot fast). Long story short, it's hard for long-draw archers to find stiff arrows that are 1) light 2) strong and 3) appropriately spined. The best arrows that meet all those requirements are probably target...
Usually 460-420 grain arrow going in the 280 - 305 fps range. Typically, I'm biased toward speed.
31.5" draw pulling 65-70#.
I still don't understand the old school wisdom that broadhead tipped arrows start to fly worse at anything above 280 fps. It would be really interested to actually see...
All good. Let me know if the buddy would like to take a look. I won't be down that way until late September, but will be as far south as Salem a few times this month.
Not trying to be snarky at all, but I've learned more bird hunting than reading about bird hunting.
I'd suggest going on some long hikes with the pup and stick to creeks, edges, and general good habitat. Birds need cover, food, and water and are where they are. Go find em.
