Something I've heard but cannot verify is that the propane heaters don't work well at high altitude when the air is too thin.
I don't know what the critical altitude is, but we were camped at about 6400 feet ASL and it worked fine.
We were out for 5 days/nights. I don't think we used half the 20lb jug. We really only ran the heat for a little while in the evenings and mornings
We didn't need to do any sewing, just ran the hose through the door and zipped it into the corner of the door. Works fine.
We've used the Mr Buddy heater in the 8-man Alaskan Guide. Works pretty good. We were in temps in the 20s at night, so not arctic cold. We used a 20 lb jug outside, and piped it in.
We have a 6-man with stove. Awesome for two, three is workable.
For 3+stove, woodpile, gear......….I'd suggest at minimum Redcliff or 6-man tipi.
If you can go 8-man, you'll be living large, with 3 plus all the trash.
Take a look at Seek Outside too. SO's newer hip belt has a double buckle system where you can tailor the tightness of the upper and lower part of the hipbelt. Might be worth a look.
DD Tarps are not bad either. Lots of sizes and material options. We have a 10x14 (DD XL) from them. Ships from Glasgow, Scotland, but arrived in 2 days.
Tarps
I have couple from 7 Rattles Bushcraft.

Top is 7 Rattles sheath for my Ontario Ranger Falcon, bottom sheath was the bulky original sheath.
Here's the other one...
The bigger door on the SXL is nice when you are just setting up your kindling and getting a fire going. Makes it a bit easier to get your hands in there.
I think you'll be fine with the L size stove. Burn time will be more affected by the fuel you use. Burn twigs and any stove will burn out fast. If you process some larger firewood, and get a coal bed established, it will hold heat for a while.
Our SXL has burned for over three hours on...
I'll just offer another thumbs-up on SO.
We don't have a Redcliff but I'm thinking it will fit your stated needs very well.
We've got a DST, Silvertip, 6 tipi, and 12 tipi.
We also use the SXL stove for the 6-man tipi which is close in size to the Redcliff. I think it's a good size for the...
I think this is the pitch you are describing. I haven't tried it with the DST yet, but should work great with the reinforced center cone.
This is a DD Tarps 10x14, but same idea. Back corners folder under, second trekking pole in the center.
The driving motivation for me was a lighter pack, that could carry a decent load when needed.
I was using a Large ALICE that was over 6 lbs empty, and then the ILBE, that was over 8 lbs empty.
I ended up looking hard at Seek Outside and Stone Glacier as both were/are modern designs of lighter...
Only used it in the backyard.
We have woodstoves, but I thought the nu-way would be nice during high fire danger times, camping near the vehicles.
It does throw plenty of heat in the 6-man tipi.
