When I travel for work I try to book through hotels.com. Every 10 nights you book through them you get 1 night (the average price of your 10 stays) for free. That usually covers at least one night on the road per trip, if not 2.
I was under the impression that if you didn't draw 1st choice, then you wouldn't get the doe tag. At least that's how the WY game and fish person we spoke to explained it. Draw odds showed that we should have gotten that doe tag even though we didn't get the 1st choice buck so I assumed it was true.
So last year we applied and drew buck and doe tags. We applied in a unit where we were on the line for drawing with the points we had. We selected buck in that unit, and doe in that unit. You have the option to not get the doe tag if you don't draw your first choice buck tag. We then picked a...

I cooked my first bit of sheep last night. We had zero leftovers. I did a roast in the oven til medium rare. I hate I can't fill the freezer with those suckers. That was a good meal.
Yeah, there are some good guys on here. From the beginning of trying to sort through outfitters, up until the last detail of the trip, this forum has been a pile of help.
It was great to meet you too. It's hard to believe 2 new guys both got it done. I'm sure glad we did though.
I can't speak highly enough about the First Lite neck gaiter. I'm impressed by it every time I go out. It keeps the wind off your neck. You can pull it up enough to cover your ears in the cold. It can also be pulled up to cover your face to block oncoming wind or shield from bugs.

Thanks everyone. It was a heck of a ride. We stuck with it and it paid off. Josh (not me, the other one) kept us on sheep the whole time, which kept me motivate to keep on pushing.
Departure
After I came out of the woods I texted a few folks to tell them I was out and had been successful. A coworker was actually headed into Anchorage and was making a 10 day fishing trip around the Kenai Peninsula. He invited me to join him at his cabin in Soldotna for a few days of...
Day 7
After a nice, big, warm breakfast we headed into to Tok to have the ram sealed. It was a cool experience. I watched the agent measure and age the ram, and set the plug. We had aged the ram initially at 8 years old, but there was one ring that was questionable. The agent agreed that the...
Day 6
Extraction day. We slept in today. Once we woke up, we texted Matt to let him know our ETA to the river. After we got up and going, we ate a couple of Rice Krispy Treats, shouldered our packs, and headed to the river. It was more alders and moose trails, but it wasn’t bad overall. We hit...
Day 5
We woke up and debated on whether or not to pack camp. If the rams went up and over, then we would have to drop back and grab camp. After a little discussion we figured it was worth a shot at going up and locating the rams before packing up. We glassed the upper end of the bowl trying to...
Day 4
Today we planned to climb to the saddle and run the ridge until we laid eyes on our rams again. We reached the saddle pretty quick, with no sheep in sight. We proceeded down the ridge, glassing into the valley where we camped as well as the bowl on the other side if the ridge. We almost...
