For you Southeastern folks, the SE Chapter of BHA will be presenting a story telling night hosted by Filson in Nashville, TN. Some folks in the Southeast may recognize these names as Kevin Murphy has been in a few episodes of Meateater with Steven Rinella, plus Flukemaster, Nick from Nick's Wild...
I'm still well on track to beat 1200 miles. I am a little over 450 for the year. I've started back weight training some too. I'm trying to work more trail running into my running routine. I'm signed up for a 25k trail run and am looking at another one this year. I've also gotten a lot faster...
I did my first Tough Mudder a few weeks ago. It was a blast and I intend to do more OCRs. I am on track to beat 1200 miles for the year. I'm up to 330 so far. I still need to get in my 2 half marathons at some point. I'm sure I will will work a few in during marathon training later in the year...
For the first time in several years I don't have a definite plan. A few of us have kicked around the idea of Nebraska turkeys, but haven't nailed it down. We have enough points to draw a decent WY antelope tag. I have some mule deer points I could burn in CO or WY as well. Nothing is set in...
I would take all of my vacation at once to get a 42 day window to hunt. I would also take my family on vacation prior to season close to where I drew the tag and turn that trip into a scouting trip. I'm not sure on the guide part. I guess the scouting sessions would help determine that.
I'm shooting for over 1200 miles running this year. I hit 1200 last year, so I gotta beat that. Also I plan to run another marathon, a long trail run (25 or 50k), 2 half marathons, and a Tough Mudder. Otherwise I plan to get back on some sort of weight lifting program and hit 400lb on back...
Yeah, I'm not saying they're ideal. They won't bay. They tend to track like they bird hunt, going out a few hundred yards and circling back. We can run off leash in Mississippi so you get to see those little quirks. From what I've seen around where I live the Catahoulas and BMCs are the way to...
My GSP, and most that I have trailed with, trail when on a deer. They will straddle the track and "wind" the downwind side of a trail, but when they run into tough spots they tend to hit the trail with their nose down. They tend to have surprisingly cold noses. I've run several tracks over 18hr...
My next will likely be a Drathaar for that reason. My GSP points and tracks, but lacks the grit to hold a wounded deer if it comes down to it. If it's still alive (gut shot, leg shot, etc.) she will point it til I get there but in the daylight a deer won't hang around with a dog pointing it no...
I trail with a German Shorthaired Pointer and a German Shepherd. I am a mod for a Facebook group that helps find wounded deer in Mississippi. We have handlers all over the state that will track for free. The dogs used are varied. The most prevalent are labs, Catahoula curs, and Blackmouth curs.
I'll second this. Thanks for making the commitment to become a lief member.
Personally I went with the SO Cimmaron/backpack/stove combo. I didn't need the pack and ended up selling it on here to fund a big First Lite purchase. However, I wanted to try a shelter similar to the Cimmaron and...
