    What gear was a pleasant surprise?

    Definitely merino wool base layers. So far Firstlite is my favorite. I've tried kuiu, firstlite, and black ovis and firstlite is definitely the softest and best fit.

    Are paper maps a dying breed??

    I'm a surveyor, so I love my paper topo maps. I think its easier to see a larger area when using the maps to pre scout. My favorite so far are the National Geographic maps that Sportsman's Warehouse sells.

    Arizona licensing system.

    I was on hold for an hour and a half to get through. The lady on the phone was able to get me my license on the phone then I could use the # to apply for the draw online without problems. She said they could not apply me in the draw on the phone.
