I may have to give one of these a try. I've come full circle again and a free standing, double wall tent is more appealing lately. The carbon poles are my only hang up....its hard to look away from the Niak that I thought I had settled on. ....or the Akto (not free standing, but doesn't tie up...
Crazy horse ladies are a sizeable portion of my customer base for fencing....I'd say you hit the nail on the head! It really is shocking (scary)! 😂🤐
ETA: But the job security is great!! Horses are fuc*!ng stupid.
I love shooting my .223s. And I love the convenience and price of factory ammo as it compares to handloading. When in stock, I buy what I can of the factory flavors that I like. Being set up to handload, as well, I have also laid in a solid supply of components to have on hand. Sooner or later...
Even the entry level units can detect a heat signature at a mile-ish. You're not checking trophy quality, but you can tell a critter from a cold rock in pitch black.
I'm not in favor of it, either!! And I don't necessarily believe that "LR" per-se, has a significant impact. Just that more animals are being killed further from the muzzle every year as a result of the available technology.
I would think the LR regulations could look just like the thermal regulations (ban) "if you're caught in the field with any type of range finder AND ballistic solver technology or the output (drop chart) from such, you're in violation."
Copy that. And I agree re: putting the laws in place.
My concern is the balance of specific regulations...I'd hate to see dedicated predator hunters lose opportunity by certain tech limitations that are simply blanket band aids.
Lots of hunters bitch about our predator problems in the west...
I don't think you can dismiss "Long Range" hunting that easily in a discussion about technology out-pacing regulation/enforcement. But it depends on your definition. More efficient "medium range " hunting is very easily accessible and there are a lot of people shooting game a lot further than...
I've been hearing of more and more instances of thermal optics being used for big game "hunting" in MT, lately, too. Specifically in some of the sheep hunting circles.
What appears to be the method(s) of implementing thermal to your (anyone's) knowledge? Daytime scanning? Nighttime scanning...
Are more tags being sold/made available? Are animals being killed that likely would have survived in years past because people are hunting "deeper" and able to capitalize at longer ranges? These are the 2 areas that I see "tech" having a massive impact.
I don't know Idaho, but i know what i see...
This!! Base your bag/quarter/load size on space that you know will be available to thaw these pieces later! They take a bit to soften up. A solid frozen whole deer across the washer/dryer for a couple days is not as interesting as it sounds.
