Animals won’t care.
Make sure you’re staying up on hydration and good calorie intake. I do better when my body feels good. Usually takes me 2-3 months to feel like I recover from fire season. The particulate matter is no joke.
Sure is going to look different down there after this one but I think a lot of folks saw this coming with the state of the lodgepole stands down there.
Except for everyone that lost their places during the Gwen, pretty quiet year. Amazing how the tide turned at the latter part of July and August. 1 5000 acre fire in the Selway and pretty much north of the Salmon River is quiet.
It depends. Do you prefer a federal prison system or state prison? I heard the Orofino Red Hots crew is fun to be on. They seem to have a blast when they get on projects in the woods in the summer.
About near every forest, state, BLM and tribe is busy at the moment with fires so I wouldn’t...
From a forestry technicians perspective as a bunch of us are still yet to see Wildland Firefighter title in the federal sector even though the BIL Law was passed years ago.
A person who works their butt off with USFS will see the positives and on many districts will have their NWCG FFT1/ICT5...
If it keeps up I bet we see stage 2 restrictions soon on every forest/region and potlatchdeltic lands closed to the public. Had dry lightning the other morning. Around 50 strikes and small fires so far here. Eastern Oregon got hammered with lightning last Wednesday too.
Yeah I originally got it just for being able to do easy single tracks and road cruising. With the gas mileage it was an easy decision over using my truck and having to go 55 miles into the nearest gas station every few days. Lots of USFS and logging roads here North of Highway 12 and South of I-90!
I have a 13 tacoma which I hate a lot and wish I would have kept my 91 v6 3.0. I miss having a stick shift to cruise down roads with. Camped out of both of them and plenty of room for all the stuff I carry in the back.
The TW is what I used to use the most to get around on scouting trips and...
I’m usually on a fire assignment on the 4th. Crippled this year after an accident so I’m sitting back and enjoying people lighting off fireworks. So far nobody has started a fire, yet!
Maybe you should ask the local county search and rescues about when people find out about a hunting spot from this forum or others and they have to go rescue their asses when they get injured or lost and aren’t prepared.
I feel this is the norm these days for us 2 wheel guys/gals
Coming down a usfs road on my motorcycle doing 15 around a blind corner damn near riding in the ditch and what do you know? A vehicle with Montana plates (probably a rental car) on my side of the road coming at me fast.
Oh well...
Haven’t found one yet. Dropped AAA after they wouldn’t get me from a maintained USFS road. Usually the local tow companies here charge upwards of $1000 to tow rigs out of the woods here. Last year a guy fly fishing had a flat with no spare on a rental and it was a $1700 tow bill
Just zoom in, less vegetated stuff usually is grass or Forbs but that thicker stuff is elderberry, choke cherry, maple, alder brush, or ceanothus. Definitely wish some hot fires would break out to get rid of it one of these years. Need more grass not only to make bear hunting easier but to...
Just know the difference in vegetation in 10. It’s similar to 6. The grassy areas on OnX and Google Earth look like grass but when you get out here brush fields are massive, tall, and thick.
Worst thing many believe they ever did was put in Dworshak. So much river corridor lost not counting the steelhead and salmon. A few times a year I try to explore a new area along the river to find old logging history and it’s fun
