I agree with you here. Seems when they’re 550 plus out is when I have the most shots at one and don’t feel comfortable shooting that far unless I have one of my dedicated predator/varmint guns with me.
Seems that when I see them closer and they’re not in one of your footholds, you have about...
I’ve brought one animal (moose) in to a shop and tipped them by talking good places in the area I work when it was a slow day for them and saw them working on prepping wolf tracks. They know me by my first name now everytime I see them in the woods.
Others who make pepperoni or sausage for me...
OP, did see an outreach for a USFS LEO postion out of Seeley Lake when I was looking at outreaches yesterday.
Many I know who are USFS LEO’s are either close to retirement or are moving on for better paying Fed LEO jobs….
My InReach is under 2 feet of snow at the moment. Will head back up there in June when the snow melts with a metal detector. Backtracked the 10 miles I put on through a foot of snow this last week to no avail.
I went into the one in Lewiston for something this last week and immediately walked out. You could almost set up a kid sized basketball court with the amount of empty floor space. Every now and again I’ll get something small from there when I am in town and North40 is closed (price matching...
I can’t remember when it was this year, but had the same exact questions for Idaho.
I fill them out as the departments do look for feedback. I trust and respect my area biologists and game wardens.
Well it’s an interesting time currently. 750 million in the hole and lots of people are being laid off next week. Land of paper weights in the useless offices and nobody to do ground work anymore. Almost everyone I know that’s a temp fire crew person is done next week….
Yeah I’ve started to take before and after pics when doing projects. Gives a good perspective on things. Another 1-1.5 inches of rain for us predicted from the Missoula office by Thursday it sounds like. Definitely turning real moist quick after the bleak outlook they had on September.
Still...
Last Saturday 09/07 compared to this morning 09/14. Amazing what 2 plus inches of rain on a management fire does. Wish it would have gotten bigger to help the ungulates out with feed but take what you can get! I’m not for destructive fires but fires that clean up the landscape a little in areas...
Tides might be turning for some fires this year with precipitation coming in, but if none of you have seen the damage from the windstorm up the Selway or Lochsa this year, I fear we could have a really bad one in the next few years with all the timber that’s laying on the ground and still hung...
More lightning tonight with little to no rain. Will see how accurate the National Weather Service is with their rain predictions starting this Wednesday.
There’s a few and a few new starts from this weeks lightning that may do some good if they decide to get up and go. Funny enough one of the fires is not too far from the area in the Lolo Zone that was talked about in a podcast earlier this year.
The Watch Duty app is helpful, but not always...
Shouldn’t compare yourself to others but I do.
I could care less what I save every month. I’m not paying payments on side by sides, motorcycles, trailers, big trucks that people don’t have a need for etc. max out the Roth every year and that’s all I care about. Can I afford the things I want...
