I’ve not personally shot a deer with a 223 but my late great uncle always hunted deer with a tc contender pistol and #1365 55gr Sierra gamekings and he never had much issue staying in deer meat.
I have shot many deer with a 22-250 with everything from 55 corelokts to 50gr ttsxs. I’ve witnessed...
I have been impressed by both the robustness of all critters and also by how easy some die. No rhyme or reason to some. But there’s no guarantee on outcome just because it happened a certain way the last time. Some animals just have a great will and determination to live.
I’ve personally taken 5 deer with a 22-250 and it works wonderfully. Several others have used my loads on my recommendation in a 22-250 on deer with great success. I think 22 calibers with the right loads are wonderful low recoil game getters.
This season was a good season for me and my 25-06. I shot three deer with it two doe and a buck. All were taken with a 90 absolute hammer at 3600 fps muzzle velocity. It’s my favorite rifle for deer.
Do it do it do it! I love the 25-06. Mine is a Ruger m77 and it drives tacks. If I were to rebarrel mine I’d definitely do a fast twist and possibly look into a 25-06 ackley if you wanted to form cases.
Holy cow that’s insane. I’ve been tossing the idea around of using 90 blitzkings in my 25-06 on some pa does too just to see how they do. Congrats on the deer!
This is my Winchester 94 30-30 that was passed down to me from my grandpa. It’s a 1955 model and it had a weaver 1.5 power mounted on it but I’ve since removed it because the side mount is just an awkward sob.
I’ve taken several deer with it including my first buck. I still carry this gun on...
A sst is a great deer bullet, shoot with confidence. Go buy more and practice is what I suggest you do.
Congratulations on your first deer, us simple minded folk love pictures!
On hammertime forum and long range hunting there is extensive reports on hammer bullets with a lot of pictures for anyone interested in researching them specifically. Just look up hammer bullets terminal performance.
I’ve shot hammers now for three years and I’ve been happy with the performance on every animal I’ve taken with them. Barnes kill well too. Pick your poison.
I have shot the 50ttsx in a 1-12” twist 22-250 and it did a marvelous job on deer. You should only help expansion and penetration by going up in twist rate.
My weight loss journey started when I couldn’t keep up on drives in bear season two years ago. I thought it was ridiculous that I was 30 and I could barely keep up and I was kaput after the first day. I couldn’t believe I let my relationship with food get as bad as it was. So I swore every year...
27 pounds off since July 15. I had a rough couple weeks where I didn’t prioritize meal prep so my losses have stalled. But back on track now. Remember it’s a hike not a flight!
