Congrats to you and remaining persistent throughout your hunt!
As I was reading your story I knew you were hunting with Ed and his crew. I goat hunted w/ Ed a few years back and heard many stories about his Spring bear hunts. As you're now aware, Ed runs a top notch operation no matter what your...
Lots of great advice here. Just a couple of specifics. Core strength is paramount as controlling that pack during the ascent/decent in the alders and devil's club will test your constitution.
The other unexpected "test" of fitness was the huge steps up and down to clear obstacles (many obscured...
I'm sure you're right. Would've been an interesting culinary challenge. The game manager I hunted with told me they'll harvest a lamb or two occasionally for the table.
Simms G4 Pro wading boots were discontinued, but you can find them for an average price of $230 - 245 ($100 discount). They're tough to beat at that price point.
It wasn't bad. My thinking was that the outfitter would be more invested in expediting the export of a fully taxied specimen rather than a euro or horns and hide.
I wanted a shoulder mount as the boc is a unique looking animal. The results were decent and the cost fair. Total time to NY's JFK...
Thanks for the story! I did this hunt pre- pandemic while on a family vacation in late July during an insane European heat wave.
It was quite an "adventure". I was also talked out of grabbing back straps. (I would at least try braising them). The goats were brought to Majorca by the Phonecisns...
I ended up hunting the full moon (first week of October). Clear as a bell on top of that.
Was very concerned about the moose turning nocturnal.
I ended up killing my moose as he returned to his bed after a night of carousing with the ladies.
Second on the CVA Wolf. Cheap and cheerful. Accurate too. I'm a fan of the Hornady line of muzz projectiles. I keep it simple w/ Triple 7 pellets.
It just so happens that Midway has a sale on one of the Accura series for $497 if you're looking for a bit more reach (which may be a real factor w/...
This guy sets the standard for aggregating all the sound advice from fellow RS members, applying the knowledge (along with his own) in the field and reporting back in comprehensive detail. One would do well to start their research w/ @mcseal2 for an AK DIY hunt. Looking forward to the field report!
Thanks for posting your story. Effords positions itself as a "premium" outfitter in NL. The website is appropriately slick and many hunters who opt for the full boat remote trophy hunt report a good to excellent experience (at a significant cost compared to other outfitters).
It's a shame that...
A great line in inquiry re: the .338 Win Mag. Check out Nathan Foster's work at Ballisticstudies.com
He really goes into depth about terminal ballistic at long range and backs up his findings with evidence. Very interesting reading, and a great place to start.
I've been lucky. My taxi stops taking new work every November. Once her quota is reached during Whitetail season, that's it.
She keeps hunters up to date on FB. All the mounts are ready by the following season. (This includes all species brought in every Fall).
