45/70, once in a lifetime elk tag

Great caliber, totally capable within reasonable hunting ranges. The only caveat for the 325 leverevoultion is if a close encounter is a possibility. I've personally witnessed poor penetration due to increased velocity and frangible bullet construction on elk sized game. This is inside 50...

    Clay bird thrower

The deep cycle isn't really necessary (unless you're throwing many 100's of clays at a session). I've been using my decomissioned Jeep battery all along. I just hit the battery with a quick charge before shooting, and I'm good to go.

    Clay bird thrower

Wheely bird for sure. Also lugging the car battery to consider. I wear the remote around my neck, hit the button, mount and shoot. The remote also allows you to set up the machine for crossing shots. (Again the wheels are handy for dragging the thing to your select location). Been using mine for...

    Moose mount

That is a really unique mount. Goes great with the rest of the gang! Well done.

    Nosler 180 grain partition experiences

Great advice all around. Dropped my moose in his tracks with one shot using a Nosler partition 250g @ 2650fps out of a .338 Win Mag. The ELDX is a fine bullet, but highly frangible and better suited to long range work. A close encounter would create potential issues with penetration on moose...

Wow! Impressive bear, impressive mount, impressive turn around from the taxi! Dewey's really came through. Congrats.

2018 Mountain Lion back from the Taxi

The fact your taxi modified the form in such a lifelike pose really speaks to their skill. The face and ears are perfect. A great collaboration with a great result. Congrats!

    Maine moose draw today

Don't know if you're aware, but there was a family that drew across three generations yesterday. Unbelievable!

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

I do have Reloader 15 on hand. Never thought about going in that direction as an option. All about balancing velocity and bullet weight. Many thanks.

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

Hi Steve, My Brother and his Brother in law live in Fenton MI, and speak highly of you and yours. I'm anxious to experiment with H4895. You had a most excellent '19 season! Here's to a better end to '20.

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

Thanks for the ballpark on velocity with the two bullets mentioned. The biggest challenge has been getting ahold of H4895. Finally found some on Gunbroker, as all the usual outlets (including my local gun/reloading retailer) are 86'd on the stuff. Guy at the shop said reloading supplies have...

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

This is great information with a few options to work on this summer. We'll see what the kid and the rifle (a Rem 700 AWR w/24" barrel) likes at the range. Given our location in the Adirondacks, we'll be talking well within normal hunting ranges. Many thanks.

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

Thanks Rich, My daughter is no hothouse flower. She shoots a 12 gauge at clays no problem. Bench shooting as we know is a different story. Would love a lighter weight C&C round nose option pushed at lower velocities, but think that 6.8 Accubonds or light Barnes (95 grain TTSX) at higher velocity...

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

Thanks for some great ideas. I've not gone the monolithic route, and the 6.8 Accubonds are an interesting idea. Pushing those smaller pills at higher speed just might be the ticket. I'll consult the Hodgdon material as well. I've been an IMR/Nosler fan for so long, it's good to get some...

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

That's helpful, in terms of a ballpark load I should be looking at. Thanks!

Looking For a Bird Dog and Companion

Some very knowledgeable information thus far from guys with vast experience. I'll opine from a limited perspective in the spaniel camp. I own a Field Bred Springer who is now 6 years old. She is my first hunting dog and spends a great deal of time as a family pet. Like you, I did the research...

Reduced recoil Win .270 loads for my daughter?

Hey all, Wanted to ask fellow reloaders advice on loading a reduced recoil load for my 13 year old daughter. Looking for something whitetail capable. I had developed an accurate load using 130g Accubonds over 55g of IMR 4350 and WLR primers. Chrono shows 3075fps which is a bit too much thump...
