    Briefcase/messenger

I've had the Mystery Ranch version for field work for several years and its OK. Like Desk Jockey mentioned above, the front pocket is a bit of a PITA. I got it for maybe 50% off so Im not into it for much.

    First time marathon

Good advice from Gorp. Sounds like you've already been getting after it but I would second getting your hydration and nutrition dialed in for the longer distance. You can't out train a bad diet. You've got plenty of time so you may want to experiment with different food prior to a run the...

    Fishing Boats, Let's See Um!

SeaPro Bay Boat. That Yamaha was a good engine but repowered a few years ago with a 4 stroke Suzuki. Don't have this one anymore. 16' Duracraft. This thing went everywhere from Bangkok to Montauk. Loved this boat.

    UL fuel efficient cook system

Just FYI, replacement lids are on the Jetboil website for $5.95. I may try to make a Ti lid if I can come up with a piece of foil...

Finally! The perfect backcountry gravity bag filter? Airborne Outfitters Bitterroot

Lot of good points mentioned, both pro and con. I've got a little bit of experience with the bag but before I get into it I'll go ahead and say that I am "affiliated" with Jason, he's my nephew. We have hunted together over the years, when his deployments would allow, mostly elk and deer out...

    Trekking Pole tripod

That's some nice work! You've made me want to try one but I never have a hunting partner to supply the other pole, ha!

How do you pack your tent?

I' the same as Backyard and GQ. Break it down and split up the poles and stakes for balance, and put the tent and fly inside the bag on top of everything else.

Processor near Santa Fe or southern Colorado?

Hey guys, hope everybody's plans are coming together for this fall. I wondered if anybody could recommend a good processor in the Albuquerque / Santa Fe area or even up in Chama or Southern Colorado? Just trying to cover my bases in case I could manage to get one on the ground this year. IF i...

    They're never perfect, right?

I like the EXO bags and the frame seems to fit me better than the MR and Kifaru Ive had in the past. As others on here can attest, the K2 belt was not perfect so I replaced it with a Kifaru belt and it is a plush ride now. Had to modify the EXO belt pockets to reattach and they turned out...

    Jetboil Flash

$60 is a great price. Agree with others above to be sure what version you get. I like the piezo starter, mine has held up. If you are used to 10 min boil time you better pay attention once you light it off, it will be boiling before you can get your boots off, LOL.

    15* Sleeping bag and pad

The Marmot Helium 15deg is a good choice. I think even the Membrane version is under $400. It's what I've got and if I could justify it at all I'd try a quilt but it's just to good of a bag.

    Lightweight tent

I like my Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2, I think it comes in just at 2.5lbs maybe even a shade less. I've got other choices but it is my go to most of the time.

    Build me a Kuiu set

I haven't tried the Kuiu softshells because I'm still very happy with my Sitka Jetstream thats probably 6 or 7 years old. I do love layering underneath with the Kenai Ultra jacket. The pit zips give it a wide range of temps even under fairly strenuous climbs. And its super quiet. The Attack...

Any SC hunters on this forum

Greenville born and raised. Started hunting out west about 32 years ago and haven't missed a season since but I still love everything SC has to offer, from the mountains to the coast.

    Hornady ELD-X

Only reason I don't shoot the ELDX is that my Barrett .308 likes the Barnes TTSX a little better. To me, both good bullets, both widow-makers.

    How much water?

If I skip coffee I don't go through as much water. That being said, I cant skip coffee. I usually carry 100oz if I think i'm going to be out all day. Usually i get back to the truck with some to spare but on those lucky days when I kill something I run it dry so I try to plan for success!
