I have a pre 64 model 70 chambered in 270 win. I picked this gun up 5 or 6 years ago and it hasn’t gotten any use. Considering letting it go to fund another rifle but I have no idea what it’s worth. I know there are certain things folks look for in these that can change the value pretty...
I have two hds5’s and I love them. The firedot proved crucial for harvesting my best buck to date in the last 10 min of legal light. I also have a swaraovski z6 2.5x-15x56. I actually prefer the Leupold over the swaro bc of the firedot. The firedot option for the swaro was just too much $.
I’d rather have the RIGHT 20 acres vs the wrong 200 acres. I just finished building my house on a small 13 acre piece of land in SC - I love having the flexibility to jump in the stand after work and it not consuming alot of time to and from since I have small children. I have a 2300 acre lease...
I have first lite and Sitka systems. I much prefer the first lite in the comfort category but Sitka is certainly more durable. I primarily deer hunt from a deer stand and do not walk through thick brush.
I have a Steyr Safebolt in 25-06 I picked up 5 years ago and have really enjoyed it. Shoots lights out and i have killed several whitetail and one mule deer with it. I like it enough to purchase another, particularly in 308 win. I do not know much about Steyr other than I really like the...
Great thoughts here. I’m going through this situation now with my 4 year old boy. He is very curious and so far has enjoyed hunting. I look at it solely as a way to connect and spend quality time with him. He’s gotten good at whispering quietly and for most of our hunts, he just asks me question...
I’ve used it in my 7mm08 with good success. My Cooper 54 grouped them well. I have not hunted with them yet but have friends who have taken whitetails with them. I think it’s a decent bullet and good for the price.
How is the ctr for hunting purposes? I’ve been toying with the idea of picking up one in 308 for deer hunting. How does the weight/balance feel compared to a normal bolt action? I’ve never held one.
The Tikka is hard to beat for the money. I’ve had one in 30-06 for 10 years and it has been reliable and very accurate. I’ve probably harvested 90% of all my game with it. Never had an issue. Have heard good things about Seekins but I have been on a Cooper rifle kick for the last few years and...
Like others have said, I’ve had deer many times come in and smell the deer laying there dead. I’ve never had a mature buck do this though so can’t speak to that. I don’t think blood bothers them, deer are a curious animal in my experience.
I think depending on how big the property is, how many bucks you’ve taken to date, and what you’re overall inventory/deer management plan is it could be a great deer to take. Like others have said, if you get a chance to take him, and it would make you happy, go for it.
