    My Great-grandfather's shotgun - 1905?

I recently got my hands on my Great-grandpa's gun out of my dad's gun case. Just trying to get some information on this rig. My great-grandpa died in 1947 (born in 1887) and my dad seems to think he remembers something about the year 1905 with this gun. Any of you fellas have any ideas?

    Best 180 grain 30-06 ammo

I've had issues with all of my core-lokts over the years just penciling through animals (165-grain). Have been making the transition to 178 eld-x for elk and 150 SST for deer.

    Cold weather boot

If you're sitting in a stand all day and not doing much walking, I've found that Baffin snow monsters are awesome. Super warm. I've walked many miles in them, even though they aren't ideal for western hunting or spot/stalk.

    High end squirrel hunting scope

It's not "high end" per say, but I put a Vortex Diamondback 2-7x35 V-Plex Rimfire on my .22 lr. Been super Happy with it. Glass is incredibly clear for the price. The 2x low end is nice for closer shots as well.

    Sous Vide

I normally run my sous vide at 110. I find that when I pull it off i've got some wiggle room to actually get a little crisp on it on the stove or grill. If you run it too close to finishing temp (125+), you can't get a char on it without overcooking.

    Your first deer rifle?

New England Arms Handi-Rifle in 243. Single shot break action for the win! I learned that I needed to be pretty confident in that first shot, cause I didn't get another one.

Colorado Third Rifle Update - Bulls Still Bugling

As recent as last weekend I was watching/listening to bulls bugling at cows. A lot of activity and noises in the herd., but wouldn't say it was anywhere close to rut activity. No bulls really chasing. Most of the bulls were back in bachelor groups and minding their own business. The herd bull...

    Different bullets for cow elk

Head shot IMO seems irresponsible. There is no "pro" to taking a headshot over a shot to the pocket. However, I've never really shot a cartridge that was too over powered for any given species, so meat loss isn't really ever that big of an issue.

    Pork fat vs beef fat

My entire life I've done just pork for all of it, but this year I adopted this. I was surprised at how much of a difference it's made.
