Less susceptible to wind drift is a big reason.
Also, I figured they'd be more durable. Maybe the shafts themselves are, but it sounds like the limiting factor is the components.
68 lbs and 27.5-inch draw. Currently shooting a 385 gr arrow at 285 fps from my 340 IBO bow.
I don't want to go crazy for FOC. I want a durable arrow and not going for super light gpi. But with my draw (and therefore speed) limitations, I'd like a little stiffness in the arrow with more up...
My main concern is that I want a component system that will spin true, be straight, and fly true with broadheads. Durability is also a concern, but I don't think I'm incredibly hard on equipment. Claims of poor runout after shooting into a Rinehart are a little concerning, though.
I really...
Building new hunting arrows and thinking of making the jump from .204 to .166 or .165. Looking to put 175 to 200 gr up front, including a 100-gr broadhead. I want to stay with standard thread broadheads. Trying to compare the following systems as well as any others you'd suggest.
Gold Tip...
I use the 3-inch Fusion. First reason I use them has nothing to do with being shield cut. It's because they are lower profile than most other options out there. Second reason is since they're lower profile, I like the shield cut to give more surface area.
I'd actually like to see the old version of Vias come back. The current version is much too dark. A person at long distance looks like a black bear. I also like the original Verde. But, I'd also like more pieces available in the solid colors.
I got a chance to put my prize to use.
Excellent piece. I'm not sure I'm used to the blade being sharpened on both sides, but the extremely sharp tip is nice.
Thanks again Robby and Rokslide and Bill and Iron Will!
Thanks a lot Robby, Travis, Rokslide, and Iron Will Outfitters. I'd try the K1 knife. I hope to put my prize to great use on my upcoming antelope, elk, and deer hunts this fall. Looks like a great piece. Wow. Thanks again.
My MER is 60 yards. I'll shoot at one spot from a NFAA 5-spot target. The outside of the black is a touch over 6 inches in diameter.
2010 Bowtech Destroyer 340,
68 lbs, 27-inch draw length,
385 gr Easton Axis 400,
288 fps. Black Gold Ascent Verdict 5-pin sight. Sevr broadheads. Ignitor nocks...
I'm on my second pair of Kenetrek Mountain Extreme. I tried the Lowa Tibet around the house, but they felt sloppy in the heel and in the forefoot. I like the heel cup and the lace-to-toe of the Kenetrek. Your foot may vary, but that's my input.
Nothing says you can't use a sight light indoors or on the 3D range in Montana or Colorado.
I hunted Colorado with my Black Gold Ascent Verdict and did not miss not having a light. Pins were good to last shooting light.
Looks like 3/8-24 thread.
Also, I notice Apex has a new light out that rotates like other brands. Maybe it's better than the ones I had from them that had a push button.
I would, but the mounting leaves a lot to be desired. It has a more coarse thread than the Spot Hogg and TruGlo. Not exactly sure which thread it is. I'll try to figure it out.
