I typically run hot thanks to my family genetics of a fast matabolism. This year for our fly in I'm packing 26-3k cal per day, with some extra snacks.
I'd rather pack it out than run out of food. Expecially if the weather sets in and were delayed.
I have a friend in S.E. Ak who uses and spot and it will accompany us in S.C. Ak for sheep this month. He just put me on his message list for his goat hunt. Just got a message yesterday of Success!!! smart thing he did since your limited on messages is make the messages two part.
for instance...
Nice pics YK! Beautiful country. You timed the weather quite well and found yourself a little honey hole. Best of luck this year! Look forward to the picture heavy write up!!
This is what I came up with for our hunt. I think I'm gonna add some neosporin, benadryl, and super glue, but otherwise I feel good about it. Nice work Becca.
First aid kit
4 alcohol / 4 providone wipes & band aids vacuum sealed
1 trauma wrap
4 gauze

When I was in the same boat, Jay at Tenzing told me that the 6000 is adjustable for torso length so go with the capacity that you need. That being said I went with the 6000. I adjusted the torso to my size, tightened up the hip belt; there are two ways to tighten it per side, and it's good to...
I've put a bit of time in with mine and overall I'm happy. I haven't packed it with gear for the upcoming hunt but I did put 60#'s in it for a 7 mile jaunt. It held up well, especially after I made some adjustments. There are some secret hip belt tighteners under the hip belt pockets that helped...
There's a guy I know in S.E. Ak who had pretty good success with wearing a tyvek suit for his goat hunts. Keep in mind that goats don't walk on two legs, so if you throw one on you might want to take it slow and appear to be a goat, chillin on the mountain., on four legs all hunched over. Might...
I usually have a pair of Mntn Hardware Mittens as my cold weather go to glove. Mainly for times of rest, glassing or meals and they are toasty warm. When were moving my hand fair pretty well in a pair of Patagonia fingerless windproof fleece glove with leather palm.
I think mittens are key if...
I wear OR Crocodile gaiters and have had great success with them in all terrain and conditions I've encountered; high wet grass, knee deep river crossings, snow, scree, postholing, sidehilling. I wear them all the time.
Like many have said, they keep the crap out and the warmth in around the...
I'm using the Sawyer inline filter this year after seeing it in the field first hand last season. The fill and go aspect is to good to pass up and now you don't have to worry about a pump, batteries, or extra weight. Thanks for the info Luke!
i carried bear spray for a couple reasons, i found it to be affective at close - med range when accuracy may be challenged, i don't have a pistol, and it has been proven to be a great deterrent. Now I keep it in my house at an easy to reach place, just incase we get someone not welcome. I think...
Well, I just received the TZ 6000 the mail. Thanks Rokslide and Tenzing. It has alot of great features and I'm sure it will be a great asset this fall.
Gonna throw some weight in it and compare with my Osprey Aether 85. After getting my 2012 Draw tags in the mail then this, not sure much more...
The pillow is a great idea. I use a stuff sack that came with a Patagonia jacket a few years ago. it's super lightweight, has a draw cord, and isn't too bad against the skin. I stuff some puffy in it and then wrap a fleece around it and I have a fleece pillow for sweet dreaming of big rams...
Thanks Rokslide and Tenzing for the opportunity. Great community here and I'm glad to be a part of it. There were some pretty impressive photos submitted, congrats to everyone and their successful hunts. Sure is a great feeling heading out of the field from a successful hunt.
This pack will...
I have a Mtn hardware mitten that I throw on when the temps drop and I don't need the dexterity. They have a nice gauntlet, leather palm, and are very warm.
