Short version:
cylinder stoves burn better and are lighter
box stoves are easier to assemble and cook on.
Round stoves don't magically put out more heat, what they do is consolidate the coals better. Cubic inches is still king overall, a box stove just might involve more stoking. The factor...
I've only tried a guide lite on briefly (in a store with 50-60lbs) but it felt better then my NICE frame by a decent margin. The pure carbon frame worries me (NICE is carbon/fiberglass composite) but I feel the design is better in nearly every way. Even the new SPEAR contract they won was with a...
When I lived in western Oregon I lived in a hardshell year round. I vented as needed and modulated my output accordingly, I very rarely got "soaked" from the inside. I didn't particularly see the point of a windshell as it would probably be taken in addition to a hardshell not instead of one...

I think it is pretty straight forward, cylinders are lighter, more efficient and more fussy to assemble.
Box stoves are more durable, easier to cook on and easier to assemble.
comparable sizes will put out similar heat, the round bottom on a cylinder stove just consolidates coals better. There...
EE already has their hands full keeping up with overwhelming demand for their quilts, good luck talking them into trying a new product right now.
Really there are already several overboot types/makers and they probably don't sell a ton as it is. for what you want the wiggy's overboots sound...
Correct, the first overboot you linked would likely work pretty well. I can't tell what sole it has on it, but the Wiggy's insulation is tough and low maintenance, which is what the doctor ordered as far as feet are concerned.
This is a huge part of it I think, backpack hunting is a growing thing but still a tiny part of the Hunting market, so when two different groups talk about "hunting clothing" they start to think each other are really on different planets. For the huge majority of hunters cheap and cheerful gets...
I'm having a very similar conversation on another forum as well.
The value that the clothing gives to you has NO correlation to how much it costs. Maybe you are much better served by cheap offbrand stuff, just like I feel I'm best served by cheap used cars from Craigslist. That doesn't mean I...
Triple Aught Design makes some very good pants in earth tones.
Beyond Clothing has some decent stuff, and some of their baselayers are on sale (some of which are same fabric as Patagonia Cap thermal weight)
There is always heritage brands like Filson, which still has a few pieces worth...
We pay less for clothing then we have at nearly any point in history. Pick up a Sears catalog from 100 years ago and start doing the math. The perception that clothing is expensive now comes from two things:
1) the social acceptance of near-slave labor
2) a lack of understanding of inflation
As...
The 40 below camp booties are not overshoes and certainly not made for walking. They are actually made by Wiggies and are the same as his booties just with the added webbing and insole (I added similar to my Wiggies booties, and it is a huge improvement). They are great for what they are but I...
No, it was on another forum but its pretty easy to find. For the money ILBEs are hard to beat but if you are willing to spend a bit more there is a very long list of better packs out there.
I'm just glad that I'm in the generation that got to use an ILBE in my poor college student days rather...
You are correct, the revo can be run with just a talon and lid but the unaweep can't.
I actually wrote the tutorial on ILBE lightening, most people won't cut off as much as I did and I still only got it down to 5lbs. The mod I'd like to get another ILBE to try is basically cutting out both side...
I typically just shingle split firewood under my stove, wood is a great insulator and should be good for several days.
Seek Outside does sell a "utility tray" that can be mounted underneath the stove to provide a platform as well.
The purpose of a sod skirt is to cover with debris and seal the edge of a tent. In fact when I worked at a wall tent shop they called them "bury strips" rather then sod skirts.
