Opportunity for big bulls exists but early archery hunts in 17 can be downright brutal with little/no bugling and temps well over 90 degrees in the first half of September. Find remote water sources and you will find the elk. Good luck
Great tag, rough country. If you dont have horses/mules, do yourself a huge favor and try to line up a few options for someone to come pack your meat out. Temps on that first season archery can still be well over 85 degrees on this hunt. Good luck!
I carried a gps in the field for 10+yrs and switched to the cell phone onyx maps last yr. Way better from a user standpoint. Easier to see the screen and navigate around on your phone vs gps. Downside is you will chew through your phone battery, so you need to pickup a ubs charging device...
If you do some scouting a week or two before the hunt, you shouldn't have any issues locating some good goats! My brother and I drew the same tag last yr and had a blast spotting/stalking these goats. Get in good shape and be prepared for rattlesnakes. You are gonna run into them out there...
