Without being able to also hear your surroundings I don't think it would be very useful for hunting. I think that right now since no one really offers it the best solution may be to get one of the options from the article and pair with some of the new bone conducting headphones. Theoretically...
The MW is a great bag, but too small for 5-7 days for a big guy, which the OP says he is. What folks don't realize is that bigger guys have bigger/heavier gear: clothes, jackets, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, shelters, etc. I need a minimum 7000 cu in bag for a weekend backcountry fishing trip...
It's all about location selection. Unless you pick a stupid spot it isn't that big of a deal. If it's dry when you get there and it's not a hole than you will probably be fine. It's not nearly as big of a deal as people think going into it. The bigger issue will be keeping dry from condensation...
It's a great option for under 5lbs. I borrowed one this summer for a 5 day trip and it was awesome and roomy. My only complaint is that it isn't tall enough for me to stand in, but I'm 6'5". Plenty tall for most normal people. I'm saving up for one myself. Easily packable, but you'll probably...
If you're talking about a traditional 2-wall 3 season shelter there are a lot of options, but the main thing to consider is floor space. If you're like me and have to run a wide pad and expect your cohabitant to run a wide pad as well, you will need a minimum of 50-54" wide. For a lot of...
Here here... I can never have enough room. My current pack which is a heavily customized Argali can easily be loaded out at over 18,000 cu in. and I have done it when taking my dad backpacking and carrying most of his stuff. I really like the Cavern, but am not sure how I like the side zip. I...
When I've worn my Howard Leight Impacts while hunting before they made me super paranoid due to the fact that they amplified all sounds. Did you notice this more with any models over others? Do any have the capability to attach bluetooth and overlay it over the external audio for either radios...
Delorme/Garmin In-Reach is what you're looking for. The monthly plans are more expensive and you have to remember to turn it on and off. I ended up just going with the cheapest annual plan after forgetting to turn it off a month or two. If you're okay with the preset 'I'm not dead' messages for...
I second most of this, the only things I do differently are as follows:
I carry a Grab-it for supporting the weight of load without causing the bag to sag. It also helps so you don't have to crush everything in your bag as much to use in this mode. I tried using the old load shelf they used to...
They rarely do codes. Most stuff on sale just goes in the Rhino Den when they are discontinuing something or making slight changes to the design and need to clear out old stock. I don't see any sales happening before fathers day.
I have yet to see a Duplex or Bikini frame go for under $200, which is unbelievable that you can use a product for 3+ years and only lose $100-150. Also, why should they give two shits about the secondary value; they make money off the people that do have to have the newest thing and upgrade...
Haha, should've worded that differently was meant to be more of a jab at the folks that ask on every post now when the zippered woobie is coming out or when the new run of tailgunners is coming out or anything else that gets teased/mentioned. Something taking a while doesn't bother me as I know...
In my experience bag ends up getting repacked no matter what. I haven't heard many people missing the compartment and I never unzipped mine. Put everything in pullouts and packing/unpacking isn't as big of an issue. Also, you should have all your food out of your pack and hung in the tree anyway...
Nowhere near a 22 mag. More like a Markhor and Argali (actually slightly bigger diameter) with a side zip on one side, giant spotting gusseted scope pocket on the other and some center compression straps.
Aron's gonna smack you for this. He already gets people bugging him weekly about the zippered woobie; now he's gonna get the frame too. It's ready when it's ready guys. Shit half the time prototypes never even see production.
I do a lot of eastern-style elk hunting out of stands and I find the 22mag on my 26" frame with a medium roll top on the bottom for my woobie to be perfect. I carry a grab-it and lash kit to haul out meat if I need to, which to do so I just separate the bag from the frame; strap the meat to the...
