Neither WA or OR are fit places to live. WA in particular seems to be trying to shut down hunting and fishing. Currently living in WA.
We are looking at WY, ID and MT in that order due to tax advantages. However, any of those states would be better than either WA or OR.
I hunt eastern WA, mostly, but black bear and deer hunt in Panhandle Idaho as well. I was carrying a Ruger GP 100, 357 MAG, 7 shots, cast preformance 180 gn Hard Cast bullets. Just bought a Kimber 1911 in 10MM with 10 round mags. Same type of ammo, hard cast, wide meplate or copper penitrator...
FWIW, like a previous poster mentioned above, I like the idea of having a few more 4-sale categories, so I can quickly look for what I am interested in.
OK, thanks much and I really appreciate the information. I am going back to "study hall" and review my class notes yet again to make sure I understand. It still seems like a bit of wizardry to me. I had planned on getting the CDS dial cut for for the load I am using, 143 gn ELDX Hunter, which...
I know this is an old post but hoping someone might respond. New to mid to long range shooting experience here. My expected range is zero to 500 yds at this point. I have a Ruger American Preditor in 6.5 CM. I purchased a Leupold VX Freedom 4X12X40 CDX scope and mounted it using the factory...
This whole process is unbelievable. Sales have stopped again. Here is the latest msg on my online sales screen
Message last updated: 11:46 AM MDT
"We've paused the line to ensure the system is working appropriately for this sale. Please remain patient the sale will resume shortly."
I moved...
I am in Spokane WA area and just checked with Sportsman Warehouse. Yes they do sell Idaho license, but the clerk told me it was at least a 2 hour wait time even with their vendor computer system, due to the volume of transactions at the Idaho end of the process. The phone line seems to be going...
I did not know you could log into the waiting room early before the event. That is handy to know. I logged in a 5 min before 10AM MST and am #7291. Plus the crash. For those of us who just want a deer tag, it long wait. Must be a better way.
Edit - finally got through on the phone at 10:45...
Hot Durn, that's a good job! Lots of work and I am glad you got it done. That story is good encouragement for the rest of us. I am hoping to get to Wy next year for deer and antelope if I get drawn.
Congrats on both hunts!
Would not Rust - AM I crazy to think I can learn to shoot a bow and solo hunt elk at my age?
I don't see why not. I learned to shoot a compound bow at age 62, still shooting the bow and I am Soc Sec age as well and just applied for it. There are much older bow hunters than me. Having the...
Congrats to to you and your dad! As many others have said, I started drawing for non res points this year. So, it might me some for next years hunt. God Bless on a successful hunt.
The only think I would add is to check and see if some Federal Transportation might apply. I thought there was a rule about transporting a loaded firearm in your vehicle.
edit - I was curious so I googled this up today. This has gotten folks in trouble on some East Coast states. You would...
As an add on to my previous post. I am sure many of us older hunters have had injuries or illnesses in the past that have left us with some limitations. I grew up really healthy and active, 30 ys in the Navy, 15 more industry, don't hardly ever remember taking a day off of work. However the...
Yup, 66 now and it just take longer to get back into shape after a layoff and longer to recover from a hard romp in the wilderness. Had to make a deal with the wife and start carrying an in reach in case of medical emergency. Life is good, finally have more time in retirement to spend on...
When bow hunting or just out in the wood with out a rifle I carry a Ruger GP 100, 7 shot .357 mag. Using my own handloads (Cast Performance, Hard Cast, wide meaplate, 180 gn Bullets) carried on my pack over my waistbelt in a nylon holster. Better than 10mm auto in my opinion. YMMV
Lots of good info here. I have been using onX/smart phone just about since it came out and use it a lot. I also have a Garmin Rhino with the onX micro sd card in it. I like being able to use the Rhino to communicate with my hunting buddy. However I really need to be able to communicate from...
This is a tough issue I hope gets settled in courts as soon as possible. I understand where property owners are coming from, we have all seen the very few that show the worst of hunters, four wheelers, hikers, etc trash and damage the outdoors with no respect or consideration for their actions...
gibby97 said: So I’m going to Colorado to do a little scouting before season. Wondering how many people actually pack a pistol when scouting/bowhunting just in case you run into a bears or lions? If so what is your preference on how to carry the pistol? I would think that the holster would get...
