Thank you for replying. I appreciate the information you provided. Not sure yet if I am going to use a bow or rifle. I do like to get away from the crowd when I am hunting, so maybe drive up and get someone with a boat to take us on the river for a ways out and then pick up back up. In that...
Sorry, I was thinking of the Haul Rd terrain, the tundra I believe is called, or maybe from everyones description maybe its swamp. Thanks for replying and providing some additional info.
How was it pulling the sled with a load in it? Just wonder if the sled might be better to put a field dressed caribou, plus pack, rifle, etc and just pull everything in the sled? I am trying to imagine the terrain, but have never been there in person.
Good write up and thanks to those with experience who also made comments. It is very much appreciated. Hoping make the trip myself next year or the year after.
What ever you decide, bit the bullet and buy a good tent now to start building around, you will have that then dang near a life time, if you buy a good one. Perhaps buy the slightly better/ bigger tent this year and the stove/heat source next year or the year after. A nice 10X10 Kodiac Flex...
Some of the same issues as the last few years that others have commented on. I will say this about online tags, the on line system was a lot faster this year and it did not kick me out and make me start over line like I have had to when trying to use the online system to purchase tags in the...
I would also recommend talking to your home owners insurance company and see what they recommend. A list is a good starting point. But the insurance company might need something more than a list for coverage. Maybe, pictures, video, receipts. Possibly start cycling more expensive one of your...
Agree 100% I normally carry the axe, shovel, jack and fire exting, but I just took out my decked storage system a few days ago. Waiting for my new Radica Truck Topper to be completed and installed. A winch is high on my priority list and probably a heavy duty come along. Bad timing and bad...
Older hunter here pushing 68 this year. A number of years ago after cancer surgery and some heart work I was wanting to get back out into the woods and mountains. The doc was OK with the idea and said his only concern was for me to get back into shape. My wife was worried that something might...
I am turning 68 this summer and solo hunt. Not sure what your definition of back country hunting is. I will not hesitate to hike in 5 or mores miles and back. I no longer hike in with everything on my back. Those back packing days are indeed over. Older, Fatter, Lazier and prefer truck...
PTUSMC13, Thanks for your service. Love the Marines, I spent 30 yrs in the Navy part of the Navy/Marine Corps Team. Mostly shipboard cruiser-destroyers in the engineering dept is my background.
What are you going be reloading for? Hunting rifles/calibers or more of long distance target...
Welcome to Rokslide! Pull up a spot next to the campfire and enjoy. Lots of great folks on here. Glad to hear you are a hunter as well. FYI , don't get offended or think its you, if folks are not clamoring to be your new hunting buddy. Generally a "Hunting Partner" is a special...
We have a small aluminum frame 12X7 cargo trailer camper conversion that me and my son built. Every once in a while we will get some some minor condensation on metal surfaces, screw heads as some else mentioned. The key is ventilation. As some else pointed out, we exhale quite a bit of moisture...
My opinion is for NR hunters only. I am sure I will get roasted for this as getting tags is a very personal, passionate process. Everyone has their own ideas and unique situations that might vary from year to year. I do not believe it is possible to make a system that works for everyone. The...
30 yr Navy career, almost no chances to hunt, being stationed overseas for most of my time. Finally completely retired and got back into hunting about 2 yrs ago. I have a lot to learn, as we could only hunt small game where I grew up back in the midwest. Even though I am an older hunter I am...
First off I want to say as Non Resident and Disabled Vet I feel extremally privileged to be able to hunt in another state. Thanks for the opportunity Idaho.
Just as a note on my experiences, I am a NR who is lucky to be tech savy and close enough to drive to ID, I have purchased my NR tags...
I got to the Panhandle region office about 5:45 AM as I live in Spokane WA. There were folks that been camping out there for 2 days. I was #94 standing in the pre-dawn line. Spent maybe 5 hrs standing outside in the elements, snowing a bit today as well. I was done by about 10:30 AM. I...
