So I am looking to have my knife on me this year instead of in my backpack. I am going to need to attach it to my belt. Yet I generally always have my backpack on. That being the case does anyone have some good suggestions for how to attach a knife to the belt but have it ride low enough that...
I have mine in metal cases and in some spots the Elk LOVE to lick, rub, scrape, and otherwise mess with them. If they weren't in the cases I am sure I would have lost 2-3 by now.
I am not sure why the mess with them but I can tell you that they only do it within the first day of me setting...
While I can appreciate how many would think this given the protective nature of many hunters my assessment was given based on the 200 miles I have pounded out in my hunting area and the 1000's of trail camera pictures over the last few months. The number of bucks is way down to what it was...
I am the same way. I don't like the dehydrated meals. I go with cliff bars, protein bars, bagel sandwiches, oatmeal with whey protein, and assorted snacks.
One thing I will say that I found helped me a lot. I would eat my dinner at like 3:30 or 4:00 PM before the evening hunt. Reason being...
I have been trying to figure this out but have not reached a satisfying conclusion so thought I would throw this out to the knowlegable folks here. Can you use an onXmap with the Garmin Earthmate application?
I ask as I am very interested in the Garmin Inreach. As such I would sell by Garmin...
Welcome! If you are picking up the bow best advice I can give is to practice several times a week! It is a lot more chaotic than rifle hunting as things are up close and seem to always happen really fast, or at least that is how I perceive them.
I have done much scouting around that area this year as well. The Elk seem to be doing fine with many quality specimens to be found. As mtnwrunner stated t\he deer are the other hand are few and far between. I have only seen a handful of bucks, none bigger than 3x3. The fawns and does' look...
Welcome to Rockslide. If you like ID please don't tell any of neighbors about it down in Cali! Yes this site will crush your wallet, but after a year or two you will be pretty geared up, then it is just the ability to fit the urge to try a different pack or load out. Also you will from time...
Make sure you are looking for cows. Getting bulls on camera is awesome for sure, but if the cows are on the camera then the bulls will be around them come hunting season.
I love my SO Revolution. Yet this has many of the features that I like, the material, roll top, full side zipper with some additions that I have wanted. Such as the ability to run a hydration system on the inside, can really compress down, and a slightly beefier belt. All in all I want one!
I agree with this. I was busted by a large herd over winter. Only approach was in the open. I was betting on their poor eyesight to let me get within 600 yards. At about 1000 yards I took a header down a small depression. Out of the few hundred there it got the attention of a few cows who...
I work in Bend and we were told not to bother attempting to come into town that week. I am taking the family and going out to the Pahsimeroi valley. I am guessing it will be super busy out there but I know a few places most folk wouldn't take their RV's up.
The cynic in me would say that they had fewer hunters to contend with and many of those records came after extended wars so for years there were fewer hunters in the field. That aside I feel the real reason is most likely those boys grew up spending more time outdoors and were far more patient.
For me for a 4 day trip with water, camera, and all gear except a weapon I am at 43 lbs. I could go a few pounds less if I go with a tarp instead of a tut for a tent. That said I am not a big ounce counter. I spend more time trying to shed my winter girth then cutting down every possible...
