Watch camofire for the mystery ranch popup 28 or 38. Not much over your budget and a great pack. Or watch the classifieds for some nice used ones

Inside 300 I'd choose the interlocks over the eld-x anyways honestly. Out of what you have the 270 has the best "elk" bullet imo. If patient you'll be able to find some 160 accubond or partitions for the 7mag and really be set!

I bought a tikka last year with the intentions of doing just that. However it shoots so good it's going to be hard to take it off. Twist rate and shorter barrel is all I would gain. The custom tikka thread sure makes it tempting tho there are some sweet rigs on there

If you are interested in the hammer hunters I'd look seriously at the absolute hammers. Same performance but gain some speed. I haven't killed anything myself with them but watched a bull and buck get killed with them last season. Excellent penetration and both drt one shot. He claimed they were...
Imo it just depends on what you want. If you are looking for an upper tier bull and don't have a bunch of time to spend there id definitely suggest hiring an outfitter. Most of them will offer a guide only package if you want to take your own food and camp to cheapen things up a bit.
If you...
Seems like it goes in cycles, depending on the companies your store sells and what they are producing at the time. Just cause the 270 is available today doesn't mean it'll be there a month from now. At least that's what I'm noticing locally.
Now there is nothing wrong with the 270, but I...
Thanks for sharing. Looks like I'll be contacting my local shop on Monday. Hopefully they can send it in and get it checked out while I'm still waiting to get out of jail

We got my dad a pair of 10x50 bx4 for last season. Was a huge upgrade for him and he really enjoyed them. I run conquests myself and would definitely choose them over the leupolds, but for the price the bx4 is a nice bino. My biggest complaint with them is the poor fov.

"Could" and "should" are two totally different things. I've seen a 6.5cm kill a cow, dead is dead right? Good bullet and short ranges it'll be ok, shot placement is key. That said it can think of a ton of calibers I would much rather have in the elk woods. I've seen/had poor shot placement with...
I've never got a custom for any of mine either, but I'm always changing something. If you are confident in your load and don't intend to ever travel with that gun I would definitely say go for it. Worst case you can always put the factory moa back on

The savage ultralite is a good option for the 280ai, I seriously considered one but ended up going a different route. Worth considering!

Imo at those ranges I would definitely stick with the standard or even the partition. 200gr in either of those bullets is certainly a great option too if they shoot decent and you want some more energy.

For me it was splitting hairs between the two. And with the meostar coming in at a lessor price it made it a fairly easy decision. Cant go wrong with either one tho!

This has crossed my mind as well. I suppose a lot of it just comes down to popularity and brass/ammo availability. Not to mention the cost of all that vs the prc which is gaining popularity in a hurry.. But it sure seems like the tikka action would be perfect to build it on!
