Gene Ingram Bird & Trout if I can only have one for the rest of my hunting.
That said, I use my Tyto and Outdoor Edge knives more than most everything else normally. They’re just too convenient.
It can stink after a day or two but everything including merino gets its own musk after a bit. I like to wear a thin 100-120 weight merino tee shirt under my core lightweight hoody. I’ve found that it helps tremendously.
I like the roto molded coolers for everyday use for work, etc. One stays in the truck year round. I have a Yeti and a Grizzly, both work well for me.
For hunting, I find as much use in the 100-120 quart Igloo and Coleman coolers I got years ago. You can fit a processed bull elk in one pretty...
They don’t call it the poacher’s caliber of choice for no reason.
I’ve seen a whitetail killed with a 22 LR. Can’t see why the 22 Mag wouldn’t work well for headshots.
You did specifically ask for a less physical hunt. The terrain of Coastal BC, the inside passage of Alaska, and up through the Chugach is some of the roughest country in North America. I couldn’t believe the terrain we had to climb through daily, even at least than 3,000’ elevation. Makes most...
I used my guide’s 30-06 loaded with 180 A-Frames on the last day of my hunt. It dropped the goat in his tracks at 350 yards. I bowhiked up until the last afternoon.
Pretty sure that’s only required if you don’t have the tags for the animals on you. My buddy went to do this for us when he drove out meat and antlers back east. At least in that instance they said we were good to go without them.
Doesn’t ever hurt to check for each instance though. Better safe...
No issues packing the rifle. Great point above regarding packing out the meat/antlers.
I’d almost want something in writing from Idaho before attempting it.
An overzealous game warden might try to make your life hell over something like that. If you do kill, I’d be sure to log coordinates of...
Depends on the weather and the terrain but I’m either glassing bedding areas or still hunting in the timber or cover. I have had the most luck with still hunting. If you’re hunting with others a little push/nudge through bedding areas can also be productive.
I have three 7mm-08’s (one is AI’d), one 6.5 PRC, and one 6.5 Creedmoor. I’d have no qualms using any of them for mule deer. The 7mm-08 is a fantastic cartridge and would work well with any quality bullet. The 6.5 PRC paired with a 143 ELD-X or similar would also be a great choice. I don’t think...
Use the Wyoming Game & Fish website to see if there are any landowners enrolled for potential access.
You’re very likely going to be limited to private land, as I doubt there is much (if any) irrigated land that is public in that area.
Most of the antelope aren’t going to be in what I’d...
