    Canol or Lancasters?

Hard to go wrong with any of the outfitters in the NWT. I talked to most before finally booking with Gana River. I know people will say bigger rams come from certain concessions but I think the average rams from each area are pretty similar from what I have seen. There is some luck involved in...

    Yukon Sheep Hunt Recommendations

I had a great experience with Gana River as well in 2022 for sheep and caribou. Top notch from top to bottom. Family atmosphere at base camp with lots of kids etc which reminded me of home but may not be some people’s flavor. When I was researching outfitters in the NWT there seemed to be great...

If you could only have two pants...

For hunting I agree the kuiu kutana and sitka timberline. I think one underrated advantage of the kutana is that they dry fast which is big advantage if you are backpacking. My favorite non hunting pants are still the attack pants.

    New World Record

Awesome Billy. It looks like an African animal more than a mountain goat.

    Sheep rifle scope

I would go with the NXS. The ATACR is an awesome scope but overkill for sheep/backpacking rifle. At almost a pound heavier counterproductive and probably won’t balance well on a lightweight rifle. I love my NXS 2.5-10 and have taken it hunting goats/elk/sheep/caribou. I find it entertaining...

Getting back at it after Med school

Good luck with your training! It goes by faster than you think. I finished my ortho residency in 2013 followed up by two fellowships. Can’t say it’s easy to find time to hunt during training but it is manageable. Just have to make sure you make it a priority once you start practice to do the...

    Durable trekking pole

Appreciate all the suggestions. I am 5”2 130lbs so breaking both of my leki micro vario poles which were brand new and run on one of the shortest settings on the same trip was concerning.

    Solid color grid fleece?

I know some people dont like Patagonia but their R1 air is amazing. Good solid color green/ brown and grey options. I love the full zip hoody but the quarter zip is good too. It seems to be just as warm but breathes and dries quicker than my other grid fleece.

How do I make my goat taste better?

I made quite a few crock pot recipes with my goat. The favorite of my family is Mississippi pot roast. Super easy and takes the edge out of most gamey flavors.

    Pack cover or no?

I run a stone glacier bag and while fairly water resistant for brief shower or light drizzle I do run a pack cover for and sustained or heavy rain. I have used the kuiu pack cover and not issues with it blowing off.

    Merino wool

Personal preference and fit. I know a lot like first lite but I find the fit odd. I really like Minus 33 for their shirts and bottom layers and smartwool and darntough for socks.

    Durable trekking pole

Looking for a recommendation for a durable trekking pole. I am less concerned about weight or cost and I am thinking of going the aluminum route. I broke both of my leki micro vario carbon poles during my sheep hunt in August. I realize it was partially my fault getting them wedged in some bad...

    Sheep Hunt Recommendations

Boot fit is pretty personal but I really like the fit of Meindel. The himalaya is really nice and a lot of the guides wore the glockners. I prefer a boot that isnt super high but fairly stiff for sheep and goat. I have worn kennetrek and schnees as well but keep going back the the Meindel...

Odds my July NWT dall hunt happens?

Congrats! I have been following this thread for a few years as well. Like others on here would love to see some pics! I was able to finally go on my hunt to the NWT this year and echo your sentiments! No place like it.

    Meniscus Surgery Before Hunting

Lots of variables there. Uncomplicated partial meniscectomy in someone with minimal arthritis would be pretty easy to get back to hiking and hunting in 4-6 weeks. While there has been more emphasis on meniscal repair recently the fact remains not all tears are repairable even with the most...

    Guided Archery Elk

I was curious if anyone had any recommendations for an outfitter with high quality archery elk hunt that would be available on a yearly basis. Fair chase is important. I have experience and success on both rifle and archery elk before and have hunted guided and unguided. The current outfitter I...
