I will echo what others have said. I broke both of my Leki micro vario poles on my NWT dall hunt. Replaced them with the BD Alpine Carbon corks and they have been durable and are still in good shape after two years of use and two subsequent sheep hunts.
I figured I would bring this full circle. Received the mount back today and I am very happy how it turned out. I appreciated the post with the sheep taxidermy as it gave me some ideas how I wanted to pedestal to look. I went with replicas on the pedestal mount so I could also have a euro mount...
What I have done is brought back the hide and horns in a duffle bag and used a soft sides cooler to out meat in. You can either check it or carry it on, and my cheap igloo soft sided cooler can hold about 50 lbs of meat. I always put any hides /horns in a contractor trash bag inside my duffle to...
I was there August 5-15. Bugs weren’t too bad. Had anywhere from 70 degrees to snow. I always filter my water. Yes most don’t but you have plenty of time and it is very quick to do for piece of mind. I have never had giardia but have seen people with it. No thanks. I typically wear one pair of...
Best of luck on the trip. You will be in for a great time. I brought my 65 atx and tripop on my dall hunt in the NWT and honestly thought it was not necessary. I have since purchased the ATC and a the small AOKA tripod is perfect for it on a long backpack hunt and ran that on my stone hunt last...
Correct. It was primarily to give a little internal structure to my duffle bag as well as to prevent the lamp tips from breaking. They were starting to split and I was worried a hard toss of the bag would snap them off.
I will echo what others have said. I brought my dall head back with me for a euro mount and had a replica made for a pedestal mount. My outfitter (Gana River) did a fantastic job boiling and prepping it for transport. If you have a day the process of getting it plugged in Norman Wells is...
My go to rifle is a proof research Glacier Ti. I had it made with a shortening length of pull and a shortened barrel to fit my needs. Yes, it looks like a youth model rifle but I love it. I have it mounted with Hawkins rings and a Nightforce NXS 2.5-10 and weighs in right at 7lbs scoped. I am in...
Enjoyed following along on your posts. We have all been there before. The ups and downs and highs and lows of both archery and sheep hunting combined. Great job not giving up and keeping it real even the ugly side of hunting in your posts. I am sure it’s not exactly what you had hoped for but...
At 125 lbs I broke both of my leki carbon poles on a sheep hunt. Not impressed at all. Switched to the BD Alpine Carbon Cork for my last two hunts and was impressed. I hot melt rubber feet for them that you can buy on Amazon and it makes them much quieter and slip less on rocks. The feet are...
Figure I would bring it around full circle. Finally got my mount completed. I am very pleased how it turned out. If anyone is looking for a good taxidermist who does replicas pm me.Had the real horns euro mounted and 2 sets of replicas made. 1 for the actual mount and another euro for my...
