I totally agree. I love that area. I'll be in shape. I love hunting the high country. I backcountry ski all winter, mountain bike, run, and do crossfit. By the time September gets here I'll be as prepared as I can be. Still tough, and I'm not 18 anymore (44 years old) but the legs will be...
Yes, those damn beetles have really done a number on a lot of our state. Some of my favorite mountain bike trails in the Winter Park area are almost unrecognizable these days. I just hope that they don't wipe out every pine tree in the state in the next 10 years.
I'm excited to see that I drew a 76 archery tag this year. Still figuring out all of my dates, but let me know if any of you are going to be down there. Maybe we could share a beer and some backstraps if the elk gods smile on us.
This is my first archery hunt down there. I have hunted the...
I have the Cloudburst since they are nice and light. Most of my hunting is backpack hunting, so I try to keep things as light as possible. The Stormfront is super burley. The Coldfront is lightly insulated and only suitable for cold conditions. There is also some really nice stuff out there...
Like so many others have said, CONGRATULATIONS!! I'm so glad to hear that all of the hard work, some great help, and a little luck lead to a happy ending to a terrifying story.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I seem to find that the bulls talk less and less each year as Colorado gets more overcrowded and hunting pressure increases. Every year I see people in places that I used to have to myself. Last year I had more close encounters in the first week than I...
I have been using the Sitka stuff for years and have had good luck with it. Any of the Gore-Tex products on the market today are totally waterproof. I can usually go a year or two between treatments if I use them pretty frequently. The best treatment I have used to restore the factory DWR...
I have the Alpha AR for climbing and backcountry skiing. I love it! It is only a few grams more than the FL but the larger chest pockets really come in handy.
I agree with most of the comments above. To specifically address your first post, I would invest in that midweight merino or fleece top. I use mine a lot that time of year in the morning and evening. For me personally, I only wear gaiters if the weather has been really nasty and there is...
I know that we all have our own opinion on arrows. Personally, I switched to the VAP SS last year after years of shooting various Easton arrows and I have been really happy with them.
I agree with CoStick. I have hunted first season in 70 degree sunshine, 10 degree snow, and everything in between. I only wear my insulated boots if I absolutely have to. I find that my Crispi Idaho (uninsulated) boots work great for 95% of it.
Wow, I just was looking over the draw summary and some poor out of state applicant missed out on a 76 archery tag with 18 points. Damn, point creep is a bitch!!
The 190g Long Range Accubond has been a real winner for me. Shoots great out to 800 (that's as far as I practice, but haven't shot elk past 450) and I haven't had anything but quick kills on elk or mule deer.
Just got back from a five day trip in central Colorado. We spent the entire time in a secluded area between 10,500 and 12,500. We only heard three bugles during that time but saw a ton of sign and quite a few animals. Hopefully the rut will be in full swing by the time we head back out. Good...
Just like the rest of you, I will be shooting skinny, heavy arrows (330 Injexions) with Exodus heads. One nice thing for 2015 is that we can finally use lighted nocks legally in CO.
