I agree with Holcombe on most topics other than the wind checker. I always carry two of those as I have been an idiot and dropped a couple of them in the past and consider it an essential item. I also do carry two knives. Havalon for most of the work, but prefer a real knife for popping the...
I have a 6x Pro and am shocked by how much I use it. I bought it for running and was hesitant to spend the dough, but am glad that I did. The battery is amazing and I use it for running, biking, hiking, backcountry skiing, etc, etc, etc. I couldn't be happier with it. If you do any sort of...
Did you get the new Phelps one that is small? I was considering giving that thing a shot for my backpack hunt this September instead of the typical five pound war club that I usually carry. If the sound sucks, I'll just stick with my current set-up.
I agree with some of the other posts....if you go carbon/micro diameter that is a little lighter g/inch than the fmj, you can run a heavier insert or outsert to get your total arrow weight to the same level. I shot the FMJ for a bit, but now shoot a Victory VAP SS with more weight up front...
You probably already know this, but a huge chunk of 18 was part of the East Troublesome fire last year, so any tips you get for that section are gonna be pretty useless. I think 181 was pretty much unscathed, so that's probably your better place to start. With the combined 18/181 tag, you will...
Glad you had fun on your visit. I don't have a lot of time in the Sarvis area, but I do in the Never Summers. Are you looking to backpack in for a couple days, or just do day trips into those areas? There is a ton of great fishing water around there, so let me know what you are looking for...
That really sucks. It reminds me of a few years ago when that fire hit the canyon, it flooded, and the Poudre's banks were covered in ash and black soot for a long time. Then another flood hit and it cleaned it all out and sent it to Kansas. I hope everyone got out safely. Scary times in the...
Gotta say....I switched from Easton to Victory arrows two years ago and have been really happy with them. They have been way more durable for me and shoot great out of my bow. Good luck making your choice!
One other thing to note.... The Victory arrows come in a couple different options in regards to the arrow tolerances. The Elite option is .001" while the sport is only .006". That could also have something to do with the consistency issues if you aren't shooting the Elite version of those...
Shooting every day and running about 25 miles a week at the moment. I'm doing a couple half marathons in three weeks. After that, I'll trim back the running and do more workouts on the mountain bike and spend the weekends hiking in the hills with heavy packs. Can't wait for September to...
There are lot of good options out there. For me, my Crispi Idahos have been the best jack of all trades that I have worn. They aren't full leather, so there is a durability trade off, but they are light, protective, and super comfortable. Last year I hunted a new spot in September that was...
I think I would stay in my home state be looking in Southwest Colorado if I had a big bank roll. I agree with Oregonsteeler that it would all go towards land and not a house. Montana and Wyoming are great as well, but I'm a chicken shit when it comes to grizzly bears. Ha!
As a couple of guys have already eluded to, keep in mind that a lot of units see the elk migrate down to private land by the end of 3rd season. This makes it nearly impossible to get to them unless you have landowner permission. Seven or eight of the units I have hunted in the past are...
Called in a bull to 40 yards a couple years ago. He was behind some trees and I decided to take one more step to get a better angle. I tripped on a log, fell flat on my face, and watched in dismay as the bull trotted away. I'm just lucky I didn't harpoon myself with my knocked arrow in the...
