I don't use Gaia, but have an S8 and have had issues with google maps and my phone "pointing" in the wrong direction. Calibrating the phone compass usually fixed this. Might be worth giving a shot.
What were your issues with the Sako? I've been lusting after an 85 arctos in 9.3x62 as my "irrational want" recently. Ejection issues with a scope?
Thanks.
Another vote for the Vtac. It's an excellent 2 point sling that works well for carrying hands free, is quick to get in and out of when using it to bolster your shooting position, and if you necklace it, you really don't give up anything to a one point when it comes to manipulation of the gun...
I have both the fulcrum and the Stryker. I've had the former for 2 years and just got the Stryker this spring.
If I could only have one bag it would be the fulcrum. My only complaint is it's "strappy" in daypack mode and it always seemed like it would take me forever to unpack and pack up...
I really like my fulcrum, for a "one pack that does it all" I don't think you can beat it. I did end up getting tired of having to deal with all the straps when setting up and moving glassing spots. Since most of my hunts are day trips I snagged a Stryker. It like that setup much better as a...
I highly recommend the antelope. I had a 6 degree morning in mine this last April and I had to loosen the draft collar that night as it was a bit too toasty for me. Sleeping on a thermarest xtherm in a hilleberg rogen. I was wearing merino tops and bottoms.
Going down to zero I'd bring a...
I print off cards with drop and drift for a 10mph wind for every 2000ft density altitude. 0, 2k, 4k, 6k, etc. I then "laminate" with packing tape and put them on a piece of velcro tape (the hook side). I have a chunk of loop velcro tape on the rifle so I can swap out cards as needed. Extra...
Common Issues
The most common issue I see is mixing barometric vs station pressure. Barometric pressure is corrected for altitude and is what the weatherman tells you. Example you are at 4000ft and 29.8” of Hg. If you use barometric pressure you have to input both the 29.8” Hg and the 4000ft...
I’m pretty new to this forum, I lurked for a while before I joined and the membership here has guided a lot of purchases regarding tents, sleeping bags, pads, clothing, and binoculars. Not to mention hours upon hours of entertainment reading threads on hunting and getting to live and learn...
Sorry I realized the "above example" in non-existent as I had it typed up as part of my first response then managed to delete it all because I'm an idiot and backed out of the browser.
The example was a difference between station (absolute) and barometric pressure.
Barometric pressure is...
You're correct, at 400 yds you'll need very large atmosphere changes to to make a noticeable difference. Just like BC it's effects become much more pronounced the further out you get. The lower the projectile's BC the more pronounced these changes will be.
My above example with the 29.8" Hg...
I just googled it. Barnes lists the .392 BC for the 130gr ttsx. It is a G1 BC and requires that you use the G1 drag function. The G7 BC will be closer to 0.19 or so. A huge BC change like that will change your numbers a bit even at the shorter distances. Just change your drag function to the G1...
I don't think that the 2700 fps is all that unrealistic, however that BC sounds awefully high for a G7 bc. My 06 runs right around that speed and is right around 2 mils at 400yds.
At the shorter distances (lets say inside of 500) velocity is the driving variable for drop. So inside of that...
Dry fire reps to build a repeatable index are free and require no modification to the gun.
ETA my response is rather dickish, sorry.
Spend 10 minutes a day for a week bringing the pistol up onto a target from a low ready or whatever ready position you prefer. It will solve the problem, and be...
You don't need to throw $1400 at the problem to get acceptable results although an arca rail on your rifle you can clip into an RRS tripod will make things easier.
As mentioned, get as much of your body behind the gun. I like to think weapon in front of shoulders, shoulders in front of hips...
I've been running a RRS 23 with their BH40 ballhead without the center column for about a year and this spring ordered the column for it. I got so tired of constantly dicking with the legs to adjust the height.
On top of of that it wasn't quite high enough for me to comfortably use standing...
