Mystery Ranch Metcalf Dry Bag Combo

That’s what I’m doing with the Zephyr. It’s a nice bag but it’s too smal thank you for the offer. I picked up a Metcalf recently on sale. So far I’ve liked it! Much more room than I was expecting.

Mystery Ranch Metcalf Dry Bag Combo

I went ahead and rolled the dice on my marriage and ordered a Big Agnes Torchlight UL 20. I’ve got a BA Kings Canyon quilt I can layer over that if it gets crazy cold. The two together should suffice down to near zero and weigh just over 3 lbs combined.

    Wool sock recommendations?

“Darn Tough socks are designed to be worn without liners. As mentioned above, you shouldn’t need liners if your socks have a performance fit and properly regulate moisture and temperature. This is where Darn Tough excels.”...

Whats in your first aid kit?

I use 3 Marsupial bags to organize my kit. I can break it down into the “family trip” down to the minimal “bleeds and basics” set up with just the essentials. I do have a tendency to go overboard having been a Corpsman in a former life but I’d rather be safe than not. The most important part of...

    Paria Sleeping Bag

Looking for some experienced feedback on the Paria Thermodown sleeping bags. The reviews look solid on their website and I’ve seen a lot of positives online but looking specifically to hear from backcountry hunters how their experience has been. Thinking about grabbing the 15 or 0 degree bag...

    REI Half Dome 2+

I've seen some posts here mentioning the REI Half Dome 2 in the past but nothing too in depth. Looking to see how those that have had it and used it a fair amount feel about now. I picked it up on sale from REI recently for a September backpack hunt. Seems well built and roomy for the weight...

    Bag liner/foam pad/tyvek liner question?

Hey all, looking for some feedback on an upcoming early September elk hunt. I have a 25* REI Zephyr bag and an REI Helix pad (R4.9). I've been told to plan to a range of 0-40 degrees at night. Not sure the 25* bag is going to cut it. Question from me is rather than getting a new bag altogether...

    Black Ovis Anchor Point DWR

Has anyone had good luck with DWR treating their Black Ovis Anchor Point puffy? I’ve seen a lot of reviews and posts about the lack of DWR with this jacket. Was looking at Nikwax Down Proofing mine but wanted to see if there were better options.

    Breathable wind layer for hiking

I’ve got the Black Ovis Specter wind hoody. Wear it regularly to cut the wind and it does a great job of it. Reasonably lightweight. Planning a hike in CO in a few weeks, so I can try and see how breathable it is.
