    Is it all Leopolds

For me, the lightbulb came on a few years ago when I was at the range with a buddy. I was musing about why we have to adjust a few clicks at every range trips and he said something to the effect of "that's why we check, so you can adjust." That comment, made me realize that I shouldn't have to...

    Is it all Leopolds

^understood. I do believe that a large majority of the "never had an issue" crowd either couldn't diagnose it to begin with, or it doesn't matter for their use. For example: I had a vortex with a wandering zero. I didn't know how to diagnose it at the time and just thought it was part of the...

    Is it all Leopolds

If shooting six rounds per year is your idea of marksmanship, I'm fairly confident that you probably don't have the skill set to identify minor shifts in zero. There's a number of reliable scopes available for well under $2k. I'm sure you were being facetious, but very few (any?) people are...

    Why Load Shelf?

I prefer meat on the shelf. Your pack stays cleaner and the meat load is more secure. I would rather have my extra clothes and such pushed out a little if it means I can keep the heavy stuff closest to my body.

    Late Season Pant Comparisons

I recently got a pair of the Kuiu axis pants. They were very long. I paid a seamstress $20 to shorten them up. It's 57° here today so I haven't worn them yet, but will probably try them out this weekend.

    What happened?

It sounds to me like you hit your bull well. He went 80 yards and died. The next day, you saw a similar bull and found the one that you actually shot. All good in my book. I've had more than my fair share of struggles... Similar example: My buddy shot and dropped a young bull a few weeks...

    3x3s Worth Shooting Picture Thread

Cool buck in here! Congrats to you guys! My last archery tag here in Colorado, I had a couple encounters with a nice three point that had to be thirty inches wide. Unfortunately, I always bumped him when I got close.

    Warmest Kuiu Mid Layer

I really like the Kenai jacket. It will pill moderately under a bino harness or pack shoulder straps. It's more of an active insulation piece. I often wear mine under a softshell/rain shell, but it's definitely not going to be as warm as a dedicated puffy. My hunting partner wears the super...

    Filson clothing and gear.

The only guys I have ever met wearing Filson were wealthy guys at pretend pheasant hunts. I cringe every time I see some urban hipster wearing a Carhartt stocking cap.

    Kifaru Made in America?

I don't know about Kifaru, but Steve from Exo has spoken about this a few times on their podcast. Basically, he has said that they try to use American made materials. In some cases, the product is either not domestically produced or is inferior to something else. The example I recall is a...

    When to quit?

Do you hunt things other than deer? I haven't read all of the posts here but, to me, it sounds like you're probably missing some of the basics. Go hunt some squirrels or rabbits, game birds, turkeys... Guys who are consistently successful on large game usually started out with small game.

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

I was browsing a couple of days ago. The gun counter guy is engaged by a guy who seems like he's been talking for awhile... I hear the customer recounting his superior ethics. Including a tale of a time where he lead a running deer by 15' in front and 6' over it's back... And surprise... Didn't...
