    When to scout for waterfowl?

It depends what you are trying to accomplish. Are you trying to find them in dry, harvested fields? Are you trying to find them on public water? If the weather is mild and warmish, they're feeding patterns are much different than if it is bitterly cold. A snow storm or other major weather...

    European Mount Ideas

I have posted these before, but this is how I have hung my most recent two. I use a 90° hardware bracket.

    CO coyote hunting - legality

I agree, it is poorly written. In the case you state, use whatever you want. We have a 6mm minimum for big game. The intention of the law is to prevent "party hunting" by people who claim to be hunting coyotes with a 30-06 while "helping" their friends with a deer/elk tags. As it is written...

    Venison Heart - Recipes?

I trimmed up my most recent elk heart, cut it to lay flat in two pieces, and threw it on the smoker for a couple hours. I sliced the heart into long strips, about 1" wide and fried in butter. The rest of the butter and heart juice was soaked up with some leftover wild rice, sauteed in the hot...

    Is it all Leopolds

In reference to some of the comments regarding old scopes and grandpa never had trouble killing stuff, etcetera. I have an older (late 80's or early 90's) Burris scope on a rifle that I inherited. The scope seems to hold it's zero to the best of my ability to shoot, with a rather thick duplex...

Kuiu cold weather gloves layer options

I like the Yukon gloves. They seem to run a little big though. Being active, they would be good down to your temperature range. If you're still, I would probably want a mitten or hand warmer.

    Lead contamination in meat.

If you trim liberally around the wounds and spit out anything that seems solid, I think you're pretty well in the clear. It's not like a few grains of lead just auto dispersed through the entire animal. I work with a guy who says things like "I don't want to feed lead to my family." That person...

    Alternative to favorite pant discontinued

I have put a lot of days on the outdoor research cirque lite pants this year and really like them. No rear pockets but the other three are zippered. I found that I liked the zippers. I also like the the little ankle gaiter zippers.

    CO coyote hunting - legality

I am not sure about the caliber restrictions but something to consider. If you want to take a furbearer other than coyote (fox, badger, etc.), you will need a furbearer license. If you are helping a buddy during rifle season, I would wear some orange.

Should hunting be uncomfortable? -Bringing up young hunters

@cnelk I remember my dad doing similar. We would hike around the Loess Hills hunting turkeys. After a few hours, he would ask me where the truck was. I can't recall a time when I've been lost in the woods.

Should hunting be uncomfortable? -Bringing up young hunters

I don't have kids but I remember a lot of days freezing my ass off while hunting with my dad. He bought me good clothing and boots and whatever I needed for 1990s-2000s Midwest tech. When I was really young and couldn't keep up, he carried me. As soon as I could drive myself, I was hunting...

    Is it all Leopolds

I just packed a cow elk 2 miles down an icy road. I fell 4-5 times. Once was pretty official, with the barrel smacking me in side of my head. Not super fun. I intend to check my setup soon. My rifle is carried in a Kifaru gun bearer. Shit happens.

6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

I shot a cow elk a couple days ago with a 147 ELD-M. 350yd, slightly quartered, fairly steep uphill, tailwind approximately 5-10mph. The shot hit her behind the near shoulder, broke the spine, and broke the offside shoulder near the top of the blade. I found a portion of the lead core just...

One group: scope X shifted by margin Y at distance Z; possibly with pictures. Another group: mine and my grandpappy's always work perfectly. Everyone else is a hater.

    Long Range Proficiency

Seems unnecessarily complicated. Buy a 6.5 Creed. Shoot it at targets and animals. Done. Or... Buy a .223 for practice and a 6.5PRC to push copper ammo faster for California.

    Is it all Leopolds

That seems like a mischaracterization. The few who seem to have expert level experience never claim to be. Many people just share their experiences and trajectory, usually in a self-depredating lens.
