by the way what would you expect the TV show to say? "Our hunter took an unethical shot, wounded a bull we never found"...that makes for good TV.
The made for TV, canned TV hunts are so hokey anyway. I love the site of them getting out of the side by side.
Glassing for Elk and then talking...
I agree with all the responses above about "I hit him (with surprise)". I expect to kill with every shot I take or I don't take the shot. I did not catch the exact yardage but if it was over 500 you could easily not see blood on the elk or find blood initially. I don't like this side of...
Longest shot:
-450 yds off shooting stix sitting with my 300 RUM, 180 grn Nosler, stopped him with a cow call dropped at the shot broadside.
-Avg shot 300 yds. Sitting off shooting stix.
-Closest shot 50 yds with my 338 Win Mag, standing off hand. Flipped the bull. That is a lot of energy that...
Antelope season usually runs 2 weeks prior to Elk rifle and the first 2 weeks of rifle. They are a great mid day activity as the Elk go into the deep stuff around 9-9:30
I personally like the element of thunderstick surprise of opening week when Elk are still planning on Archery buffer zone...... Second week wouldn't be too bad.
The problem you run into with you being from Washington is you can't just wait for snow. Ideally the colder the better for Elk...
You never know. It took me 13 yrs to draw my first rifle 16A tag, then 1 yr to draw rifle 16D.
There is no reason to it as every yr. your odds are 1 -2% or so and don't increase with added yrs........
Amen. There is a bad trend in hunting where gun makers advertise sub 1 MOA guns and 1000 yd rifles.
Yes the gun is capable but unless you practice at that distance you are not. I have seen several times in the
past few years novice hunters show up with their $ 10K Gunwerks rifle and proclaim...
If you are a trophy hunter no. If you are a meat hunter who just enjoys a good hunt and Elk meat absolutely.
As a matter of fact if you are not looking to whack a 300 in + Bull why not shoot a tasty spike. I consider any
Bull Elk a trophy spike or not.
Just be careful which outfitter you apply with or buy a landowner tag from there are some bad ones. Don't recommend David Mathews or Mick Chapel. Both put in minimal effort and charge maximum for the Landowner tag. They don't have the same bar for customer satisfaction due to the fact you...
Welcome to the Apex big game animal. A mature Bull Elk will get your goose bumps going like no other.
They are incredible animals to hunt. A Big mature bull doesn't get that way by making a lot of mistakes.
It is an awesome yet frustrating journey hunting bull elk.
I personally would go...
