Pay attention to everything, especially the wind. Learn thermals, elk aren’t Whitetail so you’ll need to tweak your hunting if that’s your background.

3 of us hunt together and have a policy of sticking the first adult legal elk we get a chance at. This is for take home meat. Then we get pickier, but I’d shoot him even if we had meat on the ground already. Any elk with a bow is worth shooting in OTC. Lots of guys never get one with a bow.

I didn’t read through the entire thread,so may have been mentioned, but I wear some Duluth DOTF and the Flexpedition pants that have been solid on a few Sept elk hunts. USA owned/operated to my knowledge. The brown is spot on for dark timber hunts.
I switched to the VAP TKOs a few years ago and I absolutely love them. A few of my buddies switched after checking them out also. Fly great and have performed well on a couple bulls. I recently dropped weight from 70#-55 due to shoulder problems but they still perform excellent.

I run the 4800 and can easily get 5-7 days. Haven’t tried to go longer but I’m confident I could make it a few days past 7. But I also have lightweight gear, quilt, etc.
look in the layer library and see if you have the Western Application Research layer. They evidently moved some stuff. The Roadless layer and Wilderness Layer are in there.
