So......"Before Internet forums" there was nothing, no conservation, no game management, no habitat protection and enhancement.
I would say the single biggest negative impact on Alaska animals that are hunted, has overwhelmingly been the internet, and especially internet hunting forums.
I'll throw out a "new" question to think about.........For whom is this a problem....????
It seems crystal clear this is "Not" an issue for everyone.
However it is and issue for some. Ask yourself "WHY".
Look and see the distinction.
Yes......I know many will not like the answer. But it is of...
I brought it up early in this thread......No one wants to talk about reversing that to "FIRST DEGREE" Kindred only. Which is what it was. There have been men send their 18 y/o Grand daughters to spend a year here so they can "GUIDE" Granddad.
I am sorry I upset so many members. I was attempting to to help, clearly I failed. I do find it interesting that only one person in this entire thread, grasped my point, then asked........"tell me about the other trophies to hunt in Alaska that cost the same or less money". Again.......SORRY for...
In a bowl the back of Mosquito Creek (out west) watched about twenty wolves racing around pulling caribou calves half birthed "out" of the cow, pulled out and shaken, then race to the next calf half born, and pull it out. There was about (estimated) 300 or 400 Caribou in that snow filled bowl...
Yes........Paul had some ugly, and disgusting photos. I have watched wolves kill for "sport". Kill all the sheep in the flock, then trot away. I have watched them kill several caribou and trot away. posted on a different forum, of long ago seeing wolf packs of over fifty wolves in the western...
Which could explain (in part) why it is so popular to dry-gulch the "single easiest and stupidest animal in Alaska, after paying someone else to scout for you, find the herd for you, and transport you next to the herd. That is "SHOOTING SKILL ONLY", same as rifle range target shooting. All of...
See that is "part" of what is removed from "past" hunting experience. Today the "archer" still must outsmart the animal with skill. Zero or very-very little "hunting" skill in shooting and animal at 633 yards. It is no longer hunting (in the classic concept). It is scouting where is the "best"...
Yet there "IS" one thing over which humans have the power to change, which may not be a silver bullet, but at least we have pretty much "full" control of implementing.
Close all sheep hunting till fall of 2025. Then open with much shorter seasons, and only in areas strong enough to support...
The wolf study was in the mid 70's as a result of that study, and after they moved (I think) 24'ish wolves clear past the far side of Denali National Park, and they returned to the upper Susitna River in just a few days (we were all stunned). They shot gunned all the radio collared wolves in the...
Are you familiar with the study of the wolves in the upper Susitna River area in the mid 70's.......??? It is very educational about wolves, and to a surprising extent Grizzly Bears. Most would "not" believe what was learned about wolves. I watched that Bell "Jet Ranger" go up in flames with (I...
