Buying a pad with a higher R rating is the best way to go, but for a workaround you can take one of those $3 Mylar emergency blankets and put in between the pad and the ground, or if it’s really cold between your bag and the pad.
Been doing this for years when I have too.
Its noisy, but cheap...
I’m moving to the New Braunfels area in about a month.
Been to Texas many times over the years (visiting friends and family) and as others have mentioned you must pay to hunt and it’s not cheap. Except for hogs, but who wants to pay to shoot hogs over a feeder.
Anyhow, im aware of all this...
I might add that the Trekker 3 has recently become a favorite of me and my buddies.
Its a four man tent but we use it as a two man with (lots) of gear.
Just got back from spring bear in Idaho in it. Got dunked on two nights in a row and was watertight.
Again, not bad for a $65 4.6lb tent
Wow I had forgotten about this post😁.
Anyhow, I removed all the bug mesh and the webbing that attaches it, plus added a small (like 8 inch) fiberglass rod to the back vent to hold it open.
The mods make it a hybrid teepee single wall tent.
its a single wall but it It still retains the floor...
possibly too small for you but thought i'd mention I just listed a 4000 bag with some extra attached Kuiu bags that add 7-10ltrs so could get you up 4600 ci (75ltrs)
not sure how to add my link here, copy/pasted dosent work.
Hate to sell these but fell on hard times and don't have any options.
Kuiu LT 4000 bag (only) in great condition only been out in the field 3 times, no defects/damage of any kind, no meat ever hauled in it $110 tyd
Other items pricing below are listed inclusive if bought with the above bag...
Got laid off last month and thought finding a new job wouldn't be hard, well it is and so now have to start selling off some prized possessions.
If not familiar with an Altaplex its one of ( I think it is actually the lightest tent with a floor and bug mesh) lightest one man (with vestibule)...
As mentioned it would be region R which now unfortunately takes several points as a non res.
I’ve hunted it twice, the best time is just after the first decent fall storm as it gets the animals up and moving.
I favor Wilderness units, which in Idaho are typically the reduced price units.
Its not about cost for me it’s about the beauty in being in the areas less molested by man.
bagging a bear is just a bonus
Memory foam is temp sensative, part of its original design.
It gets hard in cold temps
Rock hard in real cold temps
And in the heat it’s almost too soft and makes you sweat your nuts off too
Its great at home but not ideal in the outdoors
