If you were to buy a timber gun…

The 760 and 7600 are popular with the "Orange Amish Mafia" in Pennsylvania where we can't use autoloaders and it's termed the "Mennonite Machine Gun." 200 yards and in, I'd posit that it'd be hard to beat a .308 Win. slinging 165 or 180s Top it with something like a Trijicon with the amber...

    Northeastern South Dakota

Thanks again to all who contributed. We decided to roll the dice on trying a new area and join the public-access melee in the northeast section of the state. Good luck to all who head out this fall, and perhaps I may run into you on the prairie.

Looking at where Webster is located, this seems like a way to keep me out of your slough. Well played, good sir.

I hadn't taken into account the "semi-local" out of state hunters. This is a good nugget of info to chew on. Thank you.

    Northeastern South Dakota

Thank you for all that info. I'd been looking into spots that would be a little over an hour drive from Aberdeen so I thought that I may be on the edge of that crowd; perhaps I'm wrong about that. Would you say that closer to the Missouri River, like Gettysburg, Mobridge, etc has fared better...

    Northeastern South Dakota

The way we hunt in northeast PA is all water for ducks and a lot is on our river. I can say I've never once killed a duck over a field here. We are all for shooting a mixed bag of stuff we don't see much here. We did similar out in North Dakota a couple of years ago, and shot a goodly amount of...

    Northeastern South Dakota

I'm headed back to South Dakota this fall with my dad and my dog to chase pheasants on public-access lands and hopefully we are drawn for ducks as well (we each have 1 preference point). Previously we stayed at the Bird dog Bunkhouse in Gettysburg. To be sure, it was a nice place to stay and...

    Let’s talk cordage

Some standard 550 cord or 2.5mm guy line and Samson zing-it line. Zing-it is 2.2mm and has something like 650lb rating. It's dyneema and used as a throw line in arborist work as well as for hammocking.

    Cheap headlamp

I grabbed a few Foxelli brand from Amazon. USB rechargeable, cheap at about $12-14 (though I got them cheaper on sale), and have a red light mode as well. One rides in the glovebox always.

    Upland road trip

Thanks. I'm not in the market currently, but that's a great-looking dog so I'll PM you for future knowledge. I love seeing other Pudelpointers out there getting it done. I've only crossed paths with one in the field here locally in PA. My PP, Jethro, is 6 years old and the breeder has since...

In case dog ingests something bad/toxic, peroxide to induce vomiting and activated charcoal capsules down the gullet after that.
