    Bivy/ Backpack Hunting Mistakes/Advice

I have seen a few guys burned out carrying packs. One guy missed an opportunity because he tried to take his pack off to shoot. I will pick a spot a couple miles out and hunt from the spike camp. When it is time to move, you hunt the morning and pack up and move a few miles during the day. You...

    Debating a soft shell

I gave up the microfleece layer for a gore windstopper softshell jacket. I love it. If I need a little insulation, I have a synthetic vest to go under it. I never leave without my hard shell jackey and rain pants.

Vote for who makes the best pack?

I have Kifaru, Stone Glacier, and Seek Outside. They all pack weight about the same to me. I don't pack that heavy. I would give the Kifaru the edge for packing heavy, and having all the attachments a person could want. I like the SG for the simple light bag and the light frame. I like how it...

Hall of shame - gear version

Vortex scope: We hiked in 5 miles for a November elk hunt. We left our guns under a tarp for a night while we scouted and met up with another hunter. My vortex scope was fogged out and dead. My brothers lupy was perfect as usual. I also gave up the BA fly creek after one trip. Not a bad design...

    Killing the lead cow?

I know we love the bulls in the herd, but i love watching those smart old cows push the herd around. The best way to find the bulls in the fringe is to have a good old cow that keeps looking back at him. To the OP question. I have never thought about not shooting a lead cow, but now I would...
