Well, I am most likely only going to do my guided hunt in early September this year, and drop the ... drop camp idea.
And then we'll have 2 years with my group of friends to plan our 2026 hunt.
I am thinking about trying them. I have some Anacapa Mid GTX from the same brand, first time I had some Hoka and immediatly loved the cushioning. I walk a lot, every day, and I feel much better after walking on the road or hard surface with my Anacapa than with any other running shoes/hiking...
That was funny, lol! Actually some said they are required (by some wilderness/national forest rules?) to have a minimum of 2 persons for safety reasons, which could make sense.
Hello all, I would like to do a drop camp hunt for elk in Colorado this September, but most outfitters won't book a solo hunter and require at least 2 people (or more) to book a drop camp hunt.
One outfitter had several other solo hunters inquiring like me, and he emailed us all to see if we...
I am from east of the Mississippi, and even east of the Atlantic ocean!
My first western hunt was in September 2022, a guided archery elk hunt in Colorado. I was unsuccesful but loved it so much I rebooked for September 2023, where I did my second western hunt, again a guided archery elk hunt...
That was a very interesting thread.
I can confirm that last week of September 2023 archery season was very hot, and it was full moon (Sept 29), and the rut seemed dead. Apparently the previous weeks (especially around mid September) had been good (from what I was told by local guides and...
Well, I hunted Colorado twice before, in September 2022 and 2023. Both times I did a guided hunt on private land, in a OTC unit. And I am going there for the third time this coming September.
But I would like to try something different, hunting in a wilderness or higher country, unguided, etc...
As a foreign bowhunter (from Europe) I don't plan to do any real DIY elk hunt, but I'd rather use outfitters for drop camp hunts.
I am spending a LOT of time (probably way too much time wasted) online, trying to learn about the numerous GMU's of Colorado, whether they are now still OTC or draw...
These threads and posts are very interesting to me, as a "wanabee elk hunter" (so far my limited experience concerning elk is 2 hunting trips in Colorado in September 2022 and this year).
As in many other matters in life, people have different opinions.
But I enjoy reading and learning as much...
I am in the same boat. I am turning 50 this coming July, and I am rewarding myself with an elk hunt, for the first time. I wanted to do it many years ago, almost done it one time with other members of another forum but we didn't make it.
These last couple of years, so many plans have been...
For the "look" and mostly treestand/moderate walking, I bought some Lacrosse Burly Realtree Timber (when it's moderately cold/cool to mild) and some Lacrosse Grange NWTF (uninsulated) in Mossy Oak Bottomland. I ordered both pairs from the US because they are not readily available here.
They look...
In France, the big game hunting culture is very very very different than in the US for the most part.
While in the US most big game hunting is an individual thing, with a stealthy approach as in spot & stalk, still hunting or treestand sitting, without dogs, in France most big game hunting is...
Hello there, my name is Vincent, and I am a bowhunter from France.
Here I hunt mostly Roe deer, and occasionally wild boars. I love mountain game when I get a chance, but I need to travel because I don't live in the mountains.
I am planning my first elk hunt hopefully this year, and I am also...
At the moment, most of my arrows (for trad bow) are fletched with 3 x 4" feathers.
I don't use 5" anymore. The 4" are quieter in flight than the 5", and they stabilize as well as long as the arrow is properly tuned for the bow.
I also have a few arrows fletched with 4 x 3". I don't find much...
