This makes me laugh. Years ago I worked with a couple guys who weren't exactly rocket scientists. One of them had a Koi pond in his back yard and a big racoon was coming in at all hours of the day for a free snack. He got a live trap to capture the culprit. First morning he wakes up and has...
Made the mistake years ago on making homemade chilli on night one of an elk hunt when i was stuck sleeping in the cab over in a camper. Buddy started chuckling about 2 am and I quickly, and much to my displeasure, discovered why he was laughing. Never again will I make chilli while sharing a...
My dad and his buddy used to get in farting contests with me stuck in between in a single cab pickup. Pretty much burned my sniffer out at an early age.
My Dad first moved to Idaho in the early 60's and his first job was on the N. Fork for the forest service working in the Ribies eradication camps. Wild country back then. He would tell stories for hours about the adventures he had including meeting the "Wild Man of the Clearwater" aka The...
I went with the down draft as an overhead wasn't practical and expensive. Don't really use the thing much anyway as anything I cook that would need it I do on the grill outside.
Just went through this last year. Went with a Thermador cook top and love it. Didn't do anything else thermador as really expensive and were 6 months out on oven. Oven and refrigerator are Cafe and have had zero issue. Like others have said everything i read said stay away from Samsung and...
Don't underestimate insurance costs. My in-laws ending up paying >$2K/month to bridge the gap between retirement and medicare. I've known a few people that put off retirement because of insurance cost. Can't believe we've come to a place where private insurance costs more than most house payments.
All this talk about retirement has me dreaming. Working towards pulling the plug in 3.5 yrs at 60. My challenge is talking my wife into me retiring. She has a job she loves and will qualify for full pension in 11 years (Salary for life). Even if she partial qualifies (6 more years) we will...
My experience at 56. I find I have to rest muscle groups for 2 days as my body just won't recover on a 1 day rest. I also find i'm okay with 3 days off but start to fall off on strength if I go 4 or more. Currently do legs one day (squat and deadlift) and upper the next. Each day is followed...
Doing dryish. No drinking at home on weekdays. Will have some if I'm at a business function in the evenings and some on the weekends. I've never been a good quitter. Definately notice difference in sleep quality. Hoping to make it a lifestyle and not just a January thing.
Have been in a similar boat at different times in my career. Always made good money and often didn't much like my job. I have learned to make the 60ish waking hours I have outside of work in a week a bigger focus than the 40-50 I spend at work. I was often guilty of letting the work hours...
Another thing which was already mentioned. These things are heavy you want to mount the hardware to studs or solid wood. Header boards work but it does potentially push the door out further from the wall then desired. Can wrap the entire door frame in trim the same size to mitigate.
I've built a few of them and the biggest PITA is getting the length right. I've had to take a belt sander to the bottom to take off a bit. Probably an easy way to do it but haven't figured it out yet. Also if doing a bypass instead of a single door make sure the depth of the door works for...
