I think it depends on the match bullet. I killed a antelope doe and a couple of coyotes with the 120 Matchking. Looked like the bullet zipped through with no expansion. This was out of my .260. This year I killed my bear with a 130 ELDm out of my 6.5CM. Like mentioned above, stay off the shoulders.
All in good condition. Small belt. The frame was purchased just a couple of years ago when EXO discontinued them. I bought the 4800 bag in December of 2021. The crib was purchased last spring. $500 shipped, insurance extra.
I’m going to assume you are talking the Blue mountains since they run from WA to OR. The terrain is pretty brutal if you get off the roads. Typicall gear works just fine.
I do really like my Tikka, feeds like silk and accurate too. I'd hate to spend that kind of money and not be satisfied. I will look into other ways to reduce weight. I think a lot of the issue this year was the heat. It was in the 90s all week long plus we were hiking bare ridges in the middle...
Having spent 5 days in the wilderness this spring bear hunting, I've decided I need to lighten my load. I'm currently shooting a 20" Tikka w/ Nomad can @ 8#13oz. I've already decided I'm going to ditch the can for these grueling back country hunts. This will bring down my weight to 7#14oz. I'm...
I'll check with the local guy and go from there. Sometimes it takes a while to get an answer from him, but at this time of year there's no rush getting a new rifle ready. I won't have it in time for spring bear, and deer season is still a few months out.
I have not bought anything off of GB in quite some time. I've heard there are added fees now for a buyer? Is it still possible to find good deals on there? Looking for a Kimber Hunter pro Disolve Blak.
Southern Lights pretty much nailed it. As long as you take time to dial back down after the shot I don't see an issue, especially if your not dialing in more than one rotation.
Looking for a boot when it's warm and dry. Something that's breathable but still appropriate for rugged off trail hiking. This year for our spring bear trip the weather was in the upper 80's so my feet swampy the whole trip. Obviously being water proof is not a concern.
My son missed a boar on the first day of our hunt a couple of years ago. We waited 2 days and back, this time he made a great shot on the bear. Although it's possible this was a different boar, it sure looked like the same one. In my opinion, as long as the food source doesn't change the bear...
We mostly use MREs when out on trail, this way we don't have to worry about the jet boil or extra water. This year my main course was due to be "done" @4:00. Guess when my bear popped out, yep 3:55. I just threw the MRE back in the backpack and off we went. We didn't get that bear until a couple...
When spring bear hunting, we eat dinner at 3:00 sharp. Any later than that and your supper is likely to get interrupted by a bear sighting.
of course as fall progresses, the earlier it gets dark. By November, we're eating a big meal back at camp, then staying up and enjoying the campfire.
