If your intention is to put down roots, prioritize a place that will be great for your kid. Sadly, schools and family values aren't what they used to be. Regarding grandparents, you might find that as your kiddo gets older and forms attachments, the distance is tough. At least it is for us. Same...
I missed this thread the first time around. So glad it's revived.
You have the right attitude about everything. Kudos on a "death bed memory" kind of hunt.
Naw, honestly it's just the way things work.
But to appease, the contractor has also burned bridges and will most likely have a settlement to tend to that will eat through his gain.
Meanwhile the new family has already made pariahs of themselves.
Since Covid, we've seen astronomical increases in home prices in my area. (I work in Vermont.) Most of it is driven by wealthy urban dwellers who can now work remotely, thanks to changes in their workplace culture + the arrival of better internet here in town).
They bring a different value...
Fenix has treated me well. HM65RDT has the best (comfort and retention) headband I've personally used. One bulb has a warm light setting which works better in the rain (less annoying glare). Plenty bright and great battery life.
I've been surprised by the non-franchise shops around me. If I'm about to take a big hit for buying local, I'll ask, and have found that a decent number will lower their prices (or even price match).
I have a Revelation 10F (long/wide) that I use with a hammock and tent. I've never been cold in it in those conditions, but it's often overkill. FYI in that size, there's about a 3.8 ounce difference between the 20F and 10F models.
If you have the time, drive it at least once in your lifetime. Between the arctic wilderness, the wildlife, the pipeline, and being around other like-minded people, it's one of a handful of distinct American road trips. As @Wedlor says, freezer and a generator works a trick.
You could probably...
Your sleeping bag will work great as a top quilt. As others have said, you'll want to pair it with a pad (works ok) or an underquilt (more ideal).
When I first started, I didn't have an underquilt, and my thermarest z-lite worked fine down to the 40s. But dedicated underquilts are less finicky...
I use both a tent and a hammock. I find the hammock (warbonnet blackbird xlc) vastly more comfortable than even plush ground pads or my bed at home. It's also more versatile than a tent: it doesn't matter how rocky/wet/sloping the ground is...as long as there are trees.
Here in the northeast...
You have options:
1. Don't underweight what @Zap says. Consider a floorless shelter with stove for meals and evenings, but sleep in a smaller tent with a bathtub floor. (SO courthouse would be great in this regard, SO Redcliff has a smaller footprint but you really, really lose headroom. Dan...
Hi RSers,
Does anyone have field experience with Gazelle's T-Hex Hub Tent? Would love to hear from you on it--especially as it relates to performance in wind and rain. There's just not a lot of info out there.
We're looking for something that my wife can set up solo, with a toddler in tow...
I lived in Scotland as an American. What worked for me is I didn't try to make it something it wasn't.
Instead of fighting bureaucracy for a firearm, do what they do best. Get proficient with a bow. Buy an air rifle there and perfect your squirrel recipes. Join a club for stalking, or...
If you're just starting out, you do a lot worse than simply assembling 2-3 months worth of disaster supplies. Think in terms of long shelf life foods, water purification, basic meds and sanitation needs, batteries, lights, cooking fuel, home cooling/heating, cash, etc. As others have said, this...
I thought I read here on Rokslide that carrying carbonated beverages lightens felt weight because bubbles float. Can't find the thread, but have been hauling a 30 rack of coors ever since.
Of course there are issues and concerns. But for the sake of argument, here's a particular perspective that doesn't apply to everyone here:
I think that for some people, saying hunting is doomed is code for saying it's lost it's allure for them personally, but they don't want to admit it...
It's just a standardized test. My only advice is train for the test, not just for the material.
Practice with frequent long-ass sessions on the computer. Also, testing centers can be really strict. IME they even prohibited you from bringing in water to drink while you were testing. All those...
After a lot of bikes, an '07 WR250R got the nod for me. The WR was blast on the kind of swampy logging roads and ledgy trails we have in New England. It was surprisingly capable on the highway connecting up trail networks. My friend actually raced his WRR on an MX course, for giggles. (Sure...
My favorite rod for the Kenai peninsula, at least for silvers and reds has been a med action 7wt. Great for the smaller rivers and streams and has worked for me (within reason) on bigger sections where fish can really run. It also does okay for trout on windy lakes but of course not as much fun...
