Yes! Sorry I got distracted with the rest of my weekend.
I forgot to take pictures of the pole re-enforcements from the inside, but here are my first attempts at pitching the tarp! In all of the pictures, the poles are either through a loop or in a re-enforced spot. It was windy raining...
The SLD tarp just got in! Pulled it straight out of the package and threw it on the scale. Even with all of my mods, including the center patch, the tarp is 14.7 oz and compresses to about the size of two fists. The workmanship seems top notch. And the pole patches seem like they’ll provide...
I read this thread like 2 weeks ago. I’ve been wanting to try the SG Gaiters for some time, but this thread has me hesitant because of the snowballing.
I was just laying in bed and had to get up to post this idea because it is just so crazy it might work. What about flex seal? The wax idea...
Good point. I’ve set PVC on fire before. Bad day. I was thinking that if you’re using the stove, there’s no reason not to use the center pole, since they’re so close together.
True. I haven’t tried that yet, but I guess it would have the same effect, and I’m usually in pretty wooded areas.
Has anyone tried building a frame for their Seek Outside Cimmaron? I’m thinking 4 vertical poles, one in each corner, kind of like a traditional tent. It makes no sense for backpacking, but for base or truck camping, it would provide more usable space in the middle of the shelter for hanging...
Yeah the flat stays ended up fitting me better too, but I always wanted to try the xcurve hip belt. I feel like that would be the best of both worlds. I might have to try one of the new frames…
Those pitches are epic - especially the first and third DST pitches. Gonna try them when my SLD shows up.
I may still get a DST down the road, and it might end up being even lighter than what I settled on. The center patch is for sure the way to go. I could never find good pictures on how...
Yeah I didn’t even think about that. I’m curious where the weigh difference exists. Do you think there’s that much of a difference between the flat and curved stays? I bought my 40/56 on Facebook and it came with both sets of stays, so I guess I could weigh mine and compare.
I noticed that too! Looks like you can pick your frame, bag, and color now for everything but the EVOs. I love my 40/56, but I wonder if they’re streamlining their lineup and consolidating to the sky series packs with a frame choice.
The new Krux frame seems to just be a flat stayed xcurve, too
So, I actually ended up finding the Yama tarp, after looking into the silnylon vs silpoly, but they’re not on the production schedule, and I agree, I think I’d miss the center patch, but I’ve had enough experiences with saggy silnylon tarps to want to try silpoly. I ended up finding Simply Light...
Thanks! That was a great read. This makes me wish he made a square tarp. And that other manufacturers told us more details
of their fabric instead of just denier and silnylon or silpoly. I love my Cimmaron, but the sagging is always a bit of a pain.
Yeah the center patch is what drew me to...
Taking a very close look at these. I’m thinking it might be the one.
I wish DCF was an option for me, but the price tag is a little high for me these days. Otherwise it would be a no brainer.
Oh boy. Now I’m going down the silnylon vs silpoly rabbit hole. These look awesome too. Especially...
Yeah that’s about where my math was leading me.
That’s a good point. Might be worth an email to CS to get more material info. I’ll check out the Warbonnet too.
I didn’t think about tying down the center with the loop - If I get the DST, I’ll be doing that.
