Robby, thats about the exact scenario that has played out in my mind. Im confident that I can get within 75 yards on a good buck. BUT, things happen. The wind swirls, a "Rok"slides out from under you. Things happen. So with that, Im going to give the conical a try. I want to give myself...
T43, I see your point as well. I'm still on the fence on this subject. After my last post, I looked up a couple Muzzy forums and found a ton a folks who swear by the round ball out to 75-100 yards. Dang, I just can't make up my mind. I think i will buy a package of conicals and play around...
Just got off the phone with Cecil. Looks like I might be giving his Ultimate 1 Spitzer a try. He said that the round ball has a humane effective range only to 37.5 yards! Anything past that increases that chance of wounding a deer. The 390 grain Ultimate 1 Spitzer will do the job out to 175...
Robby, my groups at 100yds are about 4 inches. Thanks for all the info. You guys got me thinking about those conicals though. I think I might just have to give them a try. Whats your thoughts on the Powerbelts?
Lots of bear, lots of elk. I have come across a lot of cat sign, but have yet to see one. Same goes for wolves as well, seen their sign, but never come across one yet.
Thats a bad deal. I need to re-register my SPOT asap. Hunting alone is a such a great soul refresher........but also a big risk as well. Its always in the back of my mind on what could happen. Be careful out there folks.
Thanks guys. I've been out to the range now a few times and starting to get pretty good with the round ball. Very confident out to 100 yards. If I can find a shooter buck in the high country this fall and have him all to myself, that buck is in big trouble :)
I've wondered the same thing. I bought a brand new Camelbak last year and it leaked right away. My inside of my bag was all wet.....not good. Going with a MSR or a Platypus. Guess I better check out the Source as well.
I think it was 2007 during a high country archery hunt. I located a huge, huge typical in a beautiful alpine basin. Being to aggressive, I decide to try and intercept the buck as he headed for the timber to his bed. Unfortunately, I arrived just a tad too late. He busted me and vanished for...
