    lightweight and collapsable tripod stands?

I'm looking for a lightweight and portable tripod stand. Twenty years ago in TX I had one that was 10' tall, but folded and collapsed to 6'. The ladder folded, and the other two legs were telescoping. I think it was around 25lbs. Unfortunately that stand was carried down the Brazos river in...

Superstition Wilderness hunting and camping in AZ

Just wanted to give folks an update. If you are interested in this area, I highly recommend staying on the east side. The access areas off HWY 60 were very crowded with day hikers and the climate was more mild. We camped one night at Oak Flat campground and woke up with a couple inches of...

New Bow Hunter in AZ seeking guidance.

Tree stands worked in the Chiricahuas simply because there were enough trees...and not many people use this method for coues deer. I've had deer walk with thier head about two feet below my boots. This may not be true in other areas. If your stand is located lower on the mountains near the...

New Bow Hunter in AZ seeking guidance.

If you are interested in hunting coues deer, I suggest taking advantage of the January archery season and using tree stands. The rut is usually middle of January. One of my buddies grew up in Wisconsin bow hunting whitetails and harvested several P&Y deer there. He started hunting in AZ about...

Superstition Wilderness hunting and camping in AZ

My wife and I are planning on a car camping/hiking trip in the Superstition Wilderness during New Year's weekend. Of course I will be keeping my eye open for hunting opportunities while I'm there. I've never been to the area, but it has a trail system that would provide good access for coues...

Good idea. I guess I just bumped it again. I suppose you also have interests in this area? I'm also trying to figure out primary access points and areas to set up a camp for my scouting trip.

AZ desert mule deer in Kofa National Wildlife Refuge Region 4

I'm interested in hunting the SW region of AZ for mule deer. I've done alot of desert hunting in SE California and been successful a couple times, but AZ has a few more deer and better quality. Region 4 (unit 41, 42,44, 45) seems to by the primary areas and the Kofa NWR is mentioned in some...

Applying for my first tag this year

Put in for Montana (cheap tags) and Colorado also. You must have 3 points in CO before you get in the draw but that is part of the game. I've been applying in Idaho, Montana, and Colorado for the past two years. I've looked at hunting in Alaska and BC and most of the prices are around...

Looking for a workout that incorporates weights and running for archery!

One thing I suggest is using a HR monitor watch. When I started using one I could pay attention to how many calories I burned, keep my HR up, and monitor my workouts on the computer. I found keeping my heart rate up when I'm in the gym helped me loose weight and have better endurance. I...

    Physically challenged hunt help?

If you are interested in bow hunting, I do not recommend Snake Rivers. The manager (outfitter) is not a fan of bow hunting.

    Physically challenged hunt help?

In Ocotber I hunted with Snake River Outfitters, north of Craig, CO. It is all land owner tags, there is no need to draw a tag. I chose that outfitter because my dad could not walk very far and was not very mobile, but unfortunately he passed away in June. I still went on the hunt with my...

    squeaky leather boots!

Update-I took the recommendation and waxed the areas between the tounge, laces, and boot. There was a good improvement and will make it part of my routine before each hunting trip.

    running question

I strongly encourage a HR monitor. It really motivates me to see my HR and how many calories I've burned during a workout or run. Many times instead of concentrating on my running pace, I focus on keeping my HR steady or increasing it. The Garmin FR 70 is inexpensive compared to most, but it...

    BC or AK goat hunt?

Thanks for the information. I'm interested in a backpack style hunt, but it appears by late fall/winter most of the hunting methods involve day stalks from lower camps.

quiet waterproof shell jacket and pants

Just give you an update. I'll keep the MT050 jacket, but I was disappointed in the pants because they were a little bulky, did not zip the entire length of the leg, and did not have a zipper and buckle infront. Still keeping my Kuiu jacket and pants for nasty mountain weather.

    Suggestions for CA bear hunt

I've spooked a few sheep on the summit ridge, but never got a good look at them. I'm sure I've walked past dozens of them while I was hiking and never even noticed them. I think CA FG issues a couple sheep permits for the area.
