Why do we buy soft shells?

As a new to me owner of a jetstream, I have put it through a 4 day dall sheep hunt and a 7 day moose hunt.. the sheep hunt it was my pillow. I thought I would use it more but my ambient and wind jacket were more than enough. Temps were 60ish degrees during the day and down to 35 at night...

    Pack/Gear Shakedown

If I had a spotter, I would definitely bring a tripod, but just binos I use the trekking poles and rest my elbow on my knee for extra stability. I like this because it's usable and super adaptable on any terrain, steep or flat. I run the grayl as the main filter and bottle I run on my belt...

    Pack/Gear Shakedown

-Ditch the 9mm and carry a can of bear spray. It's strapped onto my pack belt facing forward, pop saftey and spray from the hip if need be. -Ditch the tripod and loop the tethers of your trekking poles to form an X, binos will nestle in there nicely and you can get pretty damned stable with...

    What’s your go to?

Grew up in the UP. shooting deer with my dad's walnut rem700 in 270. (Was his dad's before him), granddads 222, 22-250, inherited my great grand dad's rem 742 woodmaster in 30-06, took a few WA. deer with that. Picked up a RAR in 7.62x39 as a compact deer gun and only ever shot a bear with it...

    AK Sheep, Population Observations

I mean if we break it down a little bit, and really look at those numbers... Connecticut (3.6M population) is getting 24 Billion $$ ... meanwhile Alaska who is 118 times bigger than Connecticut with three times less the population (733k) is getting $6B in federal aid. Based off of the numbers...

    Peax 4p Tipi

I know there are multiple discussions and reviews about this exact tent already in place. I would utilize the search bar and see if any of those answer your questions.

How full do you run your pack?

I run an IA4K for every one of my hunts. From 1 day -10 days... my pack gets filled to the brim for trips over 6 days and the biggest space consumer is food. I end up running about 6 days worth of food on the load shelf if it's a 8-10 day trip to free up bag space... i would like the 6k bag...

Socks. Darn Tough & Farm to Feet

To go along with the 2 or 3 other socks posts I've posted this in. Darn tough T4021 and the over calf mid weight. Wear the 4021s every day upwards of 16+ hours sometimes and have been for about a year, have 5 pairs that I cycle through. Durability is fantastic. 10/10 would recommend

    Sheep Optic Systems

My sheep parter is moving out of state and he has an ATS65 which is phenomenal to look out of. We would split the package up (he carried the spotter and I carried the slic tripod). Since I'm now most likely going solo for the next while. I have my eye on the ATC. lightweight and doesn't take...

    Electrical Tape on Muzzle?

100% always tape my muzzle. rifle rides in my bag 90% of the day. Gets set down and the barrel is near the ground, going through alder choked hell holes, walking around the willows. I will never not tape it. Take it off at the end of season and give the whole gun a good cleaning

Kenetrek Gaiters on Midway for $14.99

I guess I haven't really paid much attention to how quiet they are. But I haven't noticed them being louder than anything else I'm wearing aside from rain gear

    Carbon Tipi Poles

I haven't used a stove in mine yet. But the alps aluminum tent pole works well for my SO silvertip (56") and Nemo pentalite (72"). Don't have the luxury of having poles to cut in all of my camp spots

Initial Ascent IA8K - info needed

Ia4k w/ panier and lid. 3rd season running it, packed out 87# 6.8 miles coming back from a sheep turned shed hunt. Strapped 2 bou sheds inside the panier and a moose paddle and 3rd bou shed on the outside. I use the spotting scope pouch for my rifle. I can get 10+ days out of this bag if...

    Walk-in Dall Sheep List

I can attest to the value of a wind jacket this year. I ran my rain jacket prior and albeit nice , was a little more bulky while on and I couldn't regulate my body temp as easily as I could with the wind shell. I left my jetstream in the tent and ran the ambient and windshell for 4 days...

    Socks?

I run darn toughs. Have only exclusively ran them the past 1.2 years. I have the "tactical" mid calf and hunting over calf. Wear the t1021 for work and every day wear, then the over calf for my main hunting sock with the 1021 as a spare pair. Both haven't let me down, zero holes. Some...

    Mid layer

Can't comments on the kuiu. But my ambient pull over was amazing on my sheep hunt. Two mornings it dropped to 32ish degrees in the morning and I was toasty with a t shirt and ambient over the top, any wind I would add the wind jacket over the top. Ill be able to talk more to it's cold...
